What is the point of fishing?

It has always puzzled me that fishermen (or women) enjoy sitting for hours watching a float in order to maim fish then throw them back. Also you will never convince me that they are cold blooded so feel no pain. Perhaps you grandads can enlighten me. By the way, if you use ground bait, see my comment in the 'thrifty tips' thread.

Afternoon all, just a reminder to please use the report button if you have concerns about a poster - and avoid any speculation about who's-whatsit-now etc. on the thread. As you were!

There are two points for fishing
1. It gets husbands (mostly) from under their wives/partners feet
2. It's gets husbands/partners some piece and quiet.
A bit like golf really.

I m with you Shysal think it not a nice thing at all and don't buy the fish are fine bit ifs its proved they don't feel pain in their mouths I ll accept that because I don't know but for a fish to be flung out of its environment and struggle to breath seems horrible I m sure you are all environmentally friendly people on here and put them in a net in the water but many don't I have seen them writhing around and being only half killed I can only see a point in it if they are instantly killed and taken home to cook

Elegran, Merlot aand Granny23 - I hope you are safely tucked behind the sofa or you could come and join us- rods and bait entirely optional. grin

Elegran Mon 27-Jan-14 17:06:15

Those hooks do get stuck into your fingers when you cast the line, though, Soutra and they hurt. I think I will just go to the fishmongers and buy some cod or haddock, or perhaps a good red herring.

confused That's too enigmatic.

I think Elegant is rather a felicitous typo- dont you?

Elegran Mon 27-Jan-14 18:38:01

Thank you, MiceElf I am still not all that clear about what it means but I think I shall stop puzzling about it for tonight.

I like your Ipad's image of me.
