Any brands you'd like/not like to see?

In addition to our splendid launch partners, Nintendo and Pearson, we've had approaches from quite a few brands wanting to advertise on Gransnet. To keep going in the long term, we're going to take advertising but we thought we'd ask you - are there any brands you love and would like us to work with - as discount partners or doing promotions, advertising or insight? No guarantees, obviously, but it would be very useful to know...

Nothing patronising to older people please!

Definitely NO to Nestle for all sorts of very good reasons and that includes L'Oreal and Body Shop which they 50% own.

No funerals.

I agree with charlotta anyone with dresses with sleeves but they don't have to be in 'older' designs please.

Holidays would be good.

B&Q/Homebase discounts would be good.

Not too many children's products please as my DiL keeps complaining they only live in a small house!

I would be pleased to see 'ethical' products e.g proven sourcing, fairtrade etc. Think we all prefer to know that what we wear /eat /use has not been come by through exploitative means.

I have no axe to grind as I no longer live in the UK, but my daughter and I both found that Direct Line insurance were very helpful and efficient when I had a motoring accident in France (before I moved here) and she had her house flooded. I don't know if they are the cheapest, but you find out how good your company is when you have a claim!

I love Amazon, as I can order 'used' books for about £2 and they will deliver to France.

thanks Gransnet for giving me the info. about Sloggi-type pants in Sainsburys - a very good buy @ £6 for 5 pairs smile

dorset, you'll be glad to know that since they built a Waitrose just down the road from my house, I have added significantly to your (and my DiL's) annual bonus. grin

dorsetpennt Wed 21-Mar-12 09:07:22

smug remark coming up jangly I work for the JL Partnership - I get 15% off Waitrose and 25% of John Lewis - except for electrical goods where I 'only' get 12%. Sorry to gloat smile

If they can guarantee a waist like the model's waist in the advertisement picture then I'll buy a dozen bras, but I doubt if that will happen :-)))

The stupid toothpaste advert. He shines this gadget over her teeth and she is so surprised that they are not clean as she has just cleaned them. She then cleans with his toothpaste and surprise, surprise the gadget proclaims them to be sparkling clean. And just to convince you they say it is the one most dentist recommend.( How many dentist and how much did they get paid)
How stupid do they think we are!

Oi, Jangly I will have you know that a client of mine is a major supplier of walk-in baths! (Althought I admit that I wouldn't want to see them advertising on here!) BTW, we still need some extra mystery shoppers for that project!

Charlotta, yes, I agree that I would like to be able to find clothes with sleeves that are just above the elbow, but not everyone wants bigger sizes, I am still looking for "smart" T shirts (i.e. sort of tailored, rather than baggy beach wear, to wear under business suits) in a size 10-12, at an affordable price.

Granny61 Totally with you on Lakeland! Great products, great service.

No, no, no to Fruitshoots. But the name makes them sound so healthy.
Ingredients are awful, and they get given with basically every childs meal in a restaurant.
Strawberry fruit shoot contains:

Water, Strawberry juice, Flavouring, Citric acid, Acidity Regulator (Trisodium citrate E331), Preservatives (Potasssium sorbate E202, Dimethyldicarbonate E242, Sodium Benzoate E211), Vitamins (C, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, B6, D, B12), Sweeteners (Aspartame, Acesulfame K) Stabiliser (Xanthan gum), Colour (Anthocyanins E163)

Sodium benzoate and vitamin C together in a product have a carnogenic effect
.
That's apart from the Aspartame and AcesulfameK which are certainly not a natural food product.Aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol is the make up of this product.

Sorry if it sounds like I have a chemistry degree, but I have been doing a lot of research lately.

Agree with you, if advertisers are willing to pay bring it on. However PLEASE ensure adverts are unobtrussive enough for me to ignore.

susiecb Mon 18-Jul-11 11:40:38

Granieee Sat 09-Jul-11 19:28:41

Back to the orignial question, what about Royal Doulton and Merrythought toys, both still made in Britain!! Also Lilliput Lane.

riclorian Sat 09-Jul-11 14:11:48

Sorry again -- where is my head ?
I think any way I have left you all in no doubt about my feelings !!.

riclorian Sat 09-Jul-11 14:09:39

Sorry every body , I appear to have posted in the wrong place . My excuse is that I have recently returned from a lovely cruise and my 'thinking head ' is still on holiday . How I agree with Susiecb , I always cover the screen when THAT man is being interviewed , that open mouth chewing is quite revolting , and I refuse to have him in my house !! What a disgusting example to our children he is . I had better close before I get too heated .

riclorian Sat 09-Jul-11 14:01:02

Well said susiecb--- I cover the screen when THAT man is being interviewed , his manners are appalling !! If he would only close his mouth while chewing !! NOT the sort of example I would like my grandchildren to follow . Better close now before I get too uptight .

JessM Thu 07-Jul-11 19:24:59

I hope we are old enough and wise enough NOT to be the target market for "designer" children's clothes. Gap half price in the sale is about my limit.

jangly Thu 07-Jul-11 19:24:26

I googled it. ethics. blush

jangly Thu 07-Jul-11 19:22:07

is that a shop?

Stansgran Thu 07-Jul-11 19:04:16

Lakeland, john lewis M&S and Amazon never let go once you are on their mailing list so leave them off unless they offer discounts or extra points to Gransnet that they don't offer others.
Please no pop up moving ads as there is enough colour from the Gransnet participants.
There is a James Inglis for shoes-narrow and long feet and yes ethics please.

Totally endorse comments about News International. Also repeat my previous comments about not pushing celebrity culture. Therefore still not happy about Half Pint Chic and 'pushing' Suri Cruise type children. I am perfectly happy with the gc's I have and don't want clones of 'famous' kids!

vivvq Wed 06-Jul-11 20:59:22

I hope that you will not be taking any advertising from News International. The only way to show this organisation that their "news-gathering activities" are abhorrent is to hit them in the pocket

grandmaagain Wed 06-Jul-11 20:36:35

jangly
agree does look good!
