We've been asked to go on Radio Scotland to talk about gransnetters' memories of Jackie on Monday morning (someone's unearthed the first-ever copy, from 1964). I have quite a lot of memories - but if anyone else has any amusing (or horrified smile) recollections, let us know.

greenmossgiel Fri 27-Jul-12 14:38:09

And Gnasher had a pet pig called Rasher! grin!

My children had a good friend when they were in primary school. Her dog was called 'Gnasher' and he looked like Denis's dog. He was generally well behaved, except for the time as a puppy when he chewed an old lady's walking stick as she sat next to the family on a park bench blush

jeni perhaps 'Gnasher' was a great, great grand-dog of Donald. wink

jeni Fri 27-Jul-12 13:07:01

He was modelled on Donald!

I liked Dennis the Menaces dog Gnasher!

I thought that was Lettice Leaf?

soop Thu 26-Jul-12 18:40:14

...and holes in her wrinkly black stockings. So chic! grin

greenmossgiel Thu 26-Jul-12 18:37:16

Oh - I remember her! Did she have glasses and plaits? And wore a gymslip ?grin

soop Thu 26-Jul-12 18:20:22

green I may choose to dress as 'Keyhole Kate' loved that little rascal. grin

greenmossgiel Thu 26-Jul-12 18:14:43

So soop can just carry a rolled-up copy of the Beano to identify her in Glasgow for the meet-up, then! grin

soop Thu 26-Jul-12 18:12:31

Watch it, Bags grin

Bags Thu 26-Jul-12 17:58:09

Definitely, soop! smile

soop Thu 26-Jul-12 16:56:27

...and so I am, green grin

greenmossgiel Thu 26-Jul-12 16:54:45

Yes - I'd read somewhere that Jacqueline Wilson was a young junior in DC Thomson's (publisher) offices in Dundee when the comic was being prepared for issue. They named it after her...(I'd written that already, further back....grin)!

greenmossgiel Thu 26-Jul-12 16:47:00

Oh soop - I can just picture you sitting there reading the Beano....our own Minnie the Minx! grin

nannal Thu 26-Jul-12 16:30:36

I remember jackie, we loved the problem page, all about periods etc. i remember it was around early adolescents so we were worried about 'kissing properly'!
Then there was 'my guy' i think it was called, we were a bit older then.

soop Thu 26-Jul-12 16:27:23

I liked the Dandy and Beano...just thought I'd say hmm

randomangel59 Thu 26-Jul-12 16:03:53

Just have to say that this post is lovely and I agree Jackie was a great magazine although looking back the editors were encouraging the route of all female mags which I observe to be - be perfect and you will be happy!!
I also have the CDs and they certainly transport. Wonder if there are any old copies lying about for us to look at?

grannyinmypocket Thu 26-Jul-12 11:28:19

I've read a few of Jacqueline Wilsons books , I know they're for kids but I enjoyed them!

Bags Tue 24-Jul-12 11:15:06

She was already writing as a little girl, jess.

Nonu Tue 24-Jul-12 10:05:25

Can"t really remember Jackie , loved Girl comic

JessM Tue 24-Jul-12 07:34:09

What really ? When JW was a little girl? Someone named the comic after her?
The JW mag is rather good. It occasionally has a silly edition (e.g. around valentines day) but generally age appropriate for 6-11 year olds. The only other ones I will buy for DGD are the wildlife ones. The rest are rubbish, do we think?

Bags Tue 24-Jul-12 07:13:20

DD now gets the Jacqueline Wilson Mag. It was Jacqueline Wilson that Jackie magazine was named after. DD loves her books too.
