GrandadTony, pleased that you now have a working space bar. Take care with the cursing! My DS, aged two, announced, 'We saw a sod in the car park today, Daddy'. He is now very careful what he says in front of his own sons and has, on occasion, told me off!

Sorry for the spaceless message above. It was sent from our iMac which seems to have a mysterious bug. Am now able to post from our laptop, hence back to normal.

We think we may have found the cause of our grandson's behaviour. We have to do a 40 miile return journey to collect him from nursery once a week. Being brutally honest with myself it could be because I have a habit of cursing loudly when witnessing bad mannered drivers. So maybe he is confused and thinks I am cross with him? In which case who can blame him!

Needless to say this is a wake-up call to me and i am now cutting out the kneejerk responses altogether. At all other times I avoid getting cross so it'll be interesting to see whether eliminating the negative driving behaviour solves the problem.

Will keep you posted.

As for the thread I have 3 GKs girl 15 boy 13 today and girl 1 and a bit and they are all fantastic,if that makes me sound just a little bit prejudiced ..well I am. We never experienced the `pushing` away stage but the little one seems to favour me slightly only because she knows she can wrap me around her very tiny little finger...so I say..enjoy every minute and don`t take life too seriously.

Two year olds are experimenting, trying to suss out how much of the universe they can control. People are the most entertaining aspect of the universe when you are 2.

21 years seems a bit of a long 'phase' though, Greatnan!

My sister was distraught when her first grandchild screamed every time she tried to hold him. We decided he didn't like her very black hair (she is blonde now!) She just waited in the background until he got used to her and now he is 21 and visits her regularly. As everybody else has said, this phase will pass!

Yes, it's a phase. Both MrDog and myself have been pushed away at various stages by all the Gkids. It doesn't last, be patient and don't push it. Just be fun and they'll come round.

Terrible twos really can live up to their name can't they? Our DGS is 2 1/2 and up to now has been enchanting (except with his parents)and I am rather dreading strops with me or "going off Granny" because it ican be so hurtful! And hard to keep one's rational hat on when you love them to bits. Good luck, you sound much too sensible to let it get to you too much and nanajune is perhaps being protective on your behalf.

It's a phase hunni. Horrible while it lasts but it will pass. Like others have said ignore the negative behaviour and make a big fuss of the positive.

If it's any consolation you and nanajune will be wonderful when he reaches his teens, turns into Godzilla for the next 5 years or so and feels his parents are 'so unfair' all the time.

Hello GrandadTony , youngsters will try all sorts of things, perhaps if you both sort of ignore him for a while, and then perhaps try only you responding to any requests (such as a drink, story etc) without any discussion, he might feel that response from one grandparent is better than none at all??!!

Hi This is nanajune's hubby. nanajune has now gone to bed and has asked me to join and reply on her behalf.

gracesmum -nanajune says she is SO sorry but for some freakish reason she was totally unable to insert spaces into her message. Being new to this site she assumed it must be something that would sort itself once she posted! You can imagine how frustrated she feels.

After it happened she got me to have a go but I too was completely unable to insert spaces when typing into HER message box. Bizarre!

So I have now joined to see if the same thing would happen on my membership. Looks like everything's okay so it can only be a software fault on her membership.

Ana - many thanks for so patiently working through her message and for your reply. Our grandson is roughly two and a half. He has only recently started all this pushing away nonsense, but at times he is very persistent so it can be quite disconcerting. I don't THINK I have horns coming out of my head!

Same here, graces , I remember having a similar problem the first time I read a novel by Ben Elton. For the first two chapters I felt compelled to read it at a corresponding speed to that which Ben used for his stand up routine.

Exhausting.

nanajune - do you not use the space bar deliberately? I am quite out of breath trying to read youor very long word!!

How old is your grandson, nanajune? It's quite common for young children to seem to reject or be fearful of one particular gender for a while, they grow out of it, don't worry!
