Thanks for your replies. I have now heard from the firm as a result of my email to their genuine website.
They've assured me that they did not send the email in question and that their IT team is investigating.
I did wonder about the validity of an email which started 'the compliment of the season' !!!!

The link would have contained the virus so you'll be OK.

I would phone the company and ask them if they sent the email.

Hopefully ok if you did not open the file. Delete it from everywhere, even the trash/junk/ deleted file. I have always done that and hopefully I have remained ok.

May I have a word of advice?
This morning I had an email, ostensibly fom a company I dealt with a year ago.
I was told that they had ' zipped and compressed confidential files' and that I should check on the given link.
Of course I did not open the link but came out of email, went to the company's website and emailed them about my concerns. I await their reply.
My question is - by not opening the link, have I done enough to protect my account or,
In opening the email have I already done damage?
