Take 'em out to the theatre, or for a meal, or both.

To advise on a 'local' treat you need to be a bit more specific with the area they live, rural Wales could mean anything.

a plant for the garden..rose bush possibly with a name similar to theres..camelia ....honeysuckle ...to name but a few...

Thanks for all your suggestions. I should have said that the couple lives in rural Wales. If any of you know of a fairly local treat or experience I would be grateful as we live in a different part of the country.

I would give them an experience of some kind there are lots of things available, such as High Tea at Claridges or similar venue depending on where they live of course. Most towns have a 'posh' place to eat that you probably wouldn't treat yourself to.
