Helllllp! Wedding Speech.....

I did a mother of the bride speech at our daughters wedding 2 years ago, OH has trouble with his speech. I spoke about her growing up through to adult years, adding quite a bit of humour with some of the things she did over the years, I was very nervous but enjoyed it, so did everyone else. I'm so glad I did it

Luckygirl that must have been so moving. I have a lump in my throat picturing the scene.
Elysium you will find lots of examples if you Google 'wedding speeches' I wrote H's for D's wedding taking bits and ideas from a few I found. H said he wouldn't have a clue what to say but on the day he did add a few words of his own.
Keep it fairly brief and heartfelt. It doesn't. have to be funny.

Here's a tip. My OH gave three totally brilliant speeches at the weddings of our DDs. They are still much talked about today by family and friends many many years later.

He has always had a quirky dry wit which certainly helped.

This is the tip......he had the speech written out on cards and he would get to the end of one card in a way that left things hanging (and often with a potential double entendre or risque ending) and then slowly produce the next card which continued totally innocently. These moments brought the house down!

At the last wedding he was well on into his PD and his ability to speak loudly was impaired. He really wanted to do it though and there was not a dry eye in the house when he got through to the end - it is making me well up now just thinking about it!

Could you get together with some friends and compose a Pam Ayres type poem to read out? You will find some examples on Google/You Tube I expect. Nobody will mind it being very brief. I hope the wedding goes well and that you are able to enjoy it despite the nerves.
