My OH is trying to programme his alarm watch will tells him when medication is due. It uses the 12 hour clock.

I have just googled the above question and there does not seem to be a definitive answer.

What do you think?

Nether its just noon IMHO
However 1 minute before is am
One minute ( or second if you so wish) after is pm
Could DH programme his clock just before or just after 12 noon

To me midnight is 12am so midday would be pm.

Found this explanation, which is even more confusing confused

"Another convention sometimes used is that, since 12 noon is by definition neither ante meridiem (before noon) nor post meridiem (after noon), then 12 a.m. refers to midnight at the start of the specified day (00:00) and 12 p.m. to midnight at the end of that day (24:00)."

Pm. It changes to am at midnight.

hildajenniJ Thu 27-Apr-17 22:18:46

Luckygirl, does your DH's watch have the ability to change to 24 hour clock? I ask because I've just changed the car clock for my husband who has never managed the 24 hour clock.

I'd say PM, too, as it's the start of the afternoon.

It is all about the sun being over the yard arm. Well the Greenwich meridian.

Before midday it is "ante" (before) meridian (midday)
P M is "post" meridian after midday.
Greenwich is the international time standard the world uses.

Midnight to midday is AM. Midday is PM to the next midnight.
We Brits invented it largely so our sailors knew what time it was and where they were going. wink (It was vital in navigation.)
