Two friends in the US have separately sent emails to ask what's going on .... I have no idea!

There's nothing on the BBC website but Nick Robinson made an oblique reference to it a few minutes ago - I assume it's Fake News?

It will make a change!

Anniebach Sun 07-May-17 10:15:53

Camilla will become queen Camilla I hope, as all, previous queen consorts , wife of the King. She is the princess of Wales now

Jalima1108 Sun 07-May-17 10:04:52

oh dear, going to have to check on that now; DH would know but he is busy elsewhere (not that he was around at the time wink)

Oh dear, I'm older still!

DanniRae Sun 07-May-17 09:15:21

Oh yes, Jalima - of course now I remember him being called Bertie when I have seen tv programmes about him. I was just thrown by the 'Albert'. I love recent history and was completely amazed when I realised that Queen Victoria died just 47 years before I was born. How can that be when I am so YOUNG!! confused

Jalima1108 Sun 07-May-17 09:04:35

David was, of course, Edward VIII

What will Camilla become I wonder when/if she becomes Queen Consort?

Jalima1108 Sun 07-May-17 09:03:34

Yes, he was known as Bertie by the family, that's why I (and another poster) mentioned Bertie in my post too! smile

DanniRae Sun 07-May-17 09:02:13

How clever of you Elrel to know that George VI's birth name was Albert. I was a little confused by your post at first but looked it up.
Yes, I agree that that would make any loving father sad! But how proud he would be if he knew what an amazing queen she has been!! (IMHO)

Elrel Sat 06-May-17 20:43:12

I thought it poignant that it is said that on becoming king Albert's his biggest regret was that this so changed and constrained the future of his beloved elder daughter.

Could it be this one?

Jalima1108 Fri 05-May-17 19:21:27

Anniebach
It's fiction!

Anniebach Fri 05-May-17 19:20:11

Can't remember the book sorry , it was written by Kitty Kelly who realy upset Sinatra with her book about him ,

Jalima1108 Fri 05-May-17 19:05:58

Anniebach shock
how would anyone know??

Well, whether she enjoyed being Queen Consort or not, she seemed to be very popular and stoically beside her husband.

merlotgran Fri 05-May-17 19:01:28

Turkey baster? You sure, Anniebach?

Which book would that be?

Anniebach Fri 05-May-17 18:55:40

Sorry, meant never believed

Anniebach Fri 05-May-17 18:54:57

Yet she turned poor Bertie down three times. Think of queen Mary , set to marry a prince of Wales but he died so she married next in line . We are told how she adored poor Bertie but I have doubts , then there are the rumours of the turkey baster, the book which told of that was banned in the UK

For a reluctant woman she certainly enjoyed being queenie consort , I just believed the devoted to Bertie line sorry

sunseeker Fri 05-May-17 18:48:55

AB I believe this was a suggestion in a docu-drama put out by BBC2 and based on something said by Lady Colin Campbell (she of I'm a Celebrity..fame) Historians have stated there is no basis in fact for the suggestion and no proof.

Jalima1108 Fri 05-May-17 18:41:53

Ooh, interesting!

Ah well, she appeared to be a very devoted and supportive wife to Bertie.

Anniebach Fri 05-May-17 18:28:27

Don't leap on me all at once .

I have never believed the QM was so bitter to the windsors because of the abdication, I think she was lined up to marry dear David but dear David said no way . Hell hath no fury etc.

Why stop Wallis having the HRH, it wouldn't have affected the rest of them,

Jalima1108 Fri 05-May-17 18:19:32

I think the Queen Mother blamed him and Simpson - perhaps it was not realised in those days that being a heavy smoker could cause lung cancer

Or perhaps he was a heavy smoker because of the pressures of the job.

Christinefrance Fri 05-May-17 17:05:13

Yes that's true Jalima her Uncle's abdication had a profound effect on her. I think it was felt King George may have lived longer if he had not had to take over not sure if that is fact though.

DanniRae Fri 05-May-17 13:28:34

Oh, Jalima of course, you are right, I hadn't taken that into consideration. I think Charles is in a difficult position though - obviously he doesn't want his mum to die but he must be wondering how old he will be when he becomes King (if he ever does become King - my darling dad always said he never will reign??)

Jalima1108 Fri 05-May-17 10:44:38

She will never do that as she thinks that Uncle David brought shame on the Royal Family and let down his country by abdicating.

DanniRae Fri 05-May-17 09:54:27

Yes Christine Good Luck to them BOTH! Elizabeth II is a great Queen and Philip has supported her throughout her reign. However I do feel that she should abdicate and let Charles become King.

Christinefrance Fri 05-May-17 07:13:45

Yes if anyone deserves a sizzling private life its HM.Good luck to them both.

stillaliveandkicking Thu 04-May-17 22:32:16

How do you know, she may have something "sizzling" in there. Behind closed doors and all that.
