Can anyone recommend a hotel on the Suffolk coast?

This thread brought back so many memories of this lovely area. I lived in Suffolk for 30 years and visited all these places often. My daughter had her wedding reception at the White Lion in Aldeburgh over 25 years ago. A great area for a holiday. I have been away from the UK for 12 years so can't advise about hotels.

Thank you for your suggestions everyone. I do appreciate them all. I will start looking into them and plan my weekend away.

We ate at the wentworth in aldeburgh, had a quick look round and liked it. Also ate T the brudenhall. Both on the beach. Another time stayed in a large house right on the beach b&b think it was ocean house.lovely rooms. Like aldeburgh a lot but do slightly prefer southwold which has the swan and sutherland hotels, as well as many good b &b's. Halesworth inland is nice as is woodbridge.

I forgot ro say there are nice walks in Aldeburgh and from Aldeburgh and also a couple from Snape Maltings.

I second the vote for Aldeburgh and especially The Brudenell! The food at the Brudenell is better IMO. We were there earlier this year and ate most of our meals in the hotel but had dinner one night at the White Lion and were unimpressed. Both are owned by the same company.

We have been going to the Brudenell for over 40 years and, recently, try to go at least once a year.

Sorry to cast a cloud, but we stayed at The Ship at Dunwich a few years ago. The room was very nice but I didn't like the pervading smell of fish and chips (which was, apparently, what they were famous for and served a lot of) on the upper floor. We slept with the windows open. The breakfasts were excellent and the landlady was lovely and very attentive, but her husband was, we felt, not very welcoming.

The Brudenell at Aldeburgh is lovely. So is the White Lion. They are on the promenade overlooking the sea. There are nice walks and interesting places to visit. We would recommend Aldeburgh as it has nice shops and cafes and walking on the prom blows away all the cobwebs. It's in easy reach of The Snape Maltings.

The Old Ship at Southwold is good too. We also stayed at the Crown in Westleton which is cheaper because it is inland. The chapel in the village is a great second hand bookshop. You should also look in Woodbridge at the Crown. Woodbridge is a very nice town on the river.

We never managed to get into The Ship at Dulwich !

I know the Ship at Dunwich is a friendly nice pub in a good location - they used to put up a lot of the Springwatch crew when filming at nearby Minsmere. I would feel happy staying there on my own. It is not a noisy pub generally.

I'm not sure if a pub is what you'd want? Some of the hotels I can think of are in good locations, but I don't know that they are particularly friendly.

How about Bawdsey Hall,River Deben - lovely area and if you are keen on wildlife, it looks great.

I really like The Wentworth Hotel in Aldeburgh. Much beloved by the late Joyce Grenfell. Lovely hotel and lovely town.

Do t know anything about Suffolk, but perhaps you could contact the local tourist information bureau or special sites on line for walkers or other groups who may have good recommendations, good luck have a lovely holiday .
