Putting headbands on young baby girls (and other stuff)

It's just a fashion fad that will probably phase out and something else will take over....I can,t see anything wrong if that's how you choose to dress your baby and complete the outfit by putting one on. They make me smile whenever I see a baby wearing one.

Its just a silly fashion statement and of no benefit to the child, unlike the woolly knitted baby hats of the 1950's which served the purpose of keeping the baby warm.

In the scheme of things it obviously really up to parents to do as they wish, but headbands and pierced ears on babies are not to my taste, but its not my view that matters.

My point exactly Fairydoll. Just making a point and voicing my opinion. I think they look cute in headbands personally, and as long as theyre supervised no harm in them. You had your say and Ive had mine !

The baby is gorgeous. She would look just as lovely without that head band. Why gild the lily?

I also object to small babies in denim, it must be really harsh on delicate new skin.

I think I dislike this so much because it seems to me about getting and spending rather than the child. I can't quite put down what I want to say.

We should be thankful to have a child who is healthy. So many mums on here have lost babies. Why dress it up like a Christmas present The child will not know or care. Reasonably neat yes.

At the end of the day the lovely clothes and pram frills will probably end up stained with baby sick or poo.

Particularly likely with breast fed baby poo. No surface is safe. (I have had to take DD home virtually in a bag up to her neck. DGS2 was as bad. )
It would not do much for the posh clothes.

Poor little girls. I feel the same way about seeing babies wearing jeans or denim jackets.

Nothing wrong with them as long as the baby is not uncomfortable or disturbed by them, and definitely not as naff as a man in a headband!!!!!

Should have also mentioned pierced ears on tiny tots. Can't believe parents can do that to a young baby.

Katek, I could have put that frilly beribboned monstrosity on my DD2 and would still have got "Oh, what a sturdy little boy".

I don't like them and I don't like dummies either, I know a lot of young mums give them to their babies but they can be a problem for their teeth later.

Each to their own. As babies, when we were taken out in the pram Mum was often approached with, "Oh how lovely, twins - a boy and a girl!" Mum always put them right, "No, both are girls." I was the baldy and sis had the hair. Perhaps if these had been the fashion then I may have had one put on me!
So I can see why they are put on baldy baby girls but I've also thought that they looked a bit, well, silly.

All mine wore the same frilly christening gown (including DS) and very lovely they looked too.

I do remember the warnings about putting ribbons on bonnets because babies could suck them and then choke.
And nowadays I hope everyone heeds the warnings about leaving babies in car seats to sleep (the ones you can take out of the car and carry round). Their heads can sink onto their chests and inhibit their breathing.

Sorry for your loss paddyann. I can't imagine anything more devastating.

shows how different we all are then Luckygirl Mine had frillies galore,everyone of them Handwashed in soapflakes and carefully dried and ironed ....I dont understand the need to rant at young mothers who are dressing THEIR babies and their prams how They want....was I the only Gran on here who had heavy carved furry ,tasseled pram covers,or dress quilts and pillows ? or appliqued covers with bunnies on them......wee silver teething toys that hung on the pram and I still have two little ducks that were bought for a baby I lost 40 years ago...for HER pram ...its just fashion..it changes all the time

Blimey yorkshiregirl. When I started this thread I did say it was trivial . We know there are tragic vents happening all over the world,but if we solely concentrated on that we would drive ourselves nuts!
Lighten up.

A baby has suffocated as a result of wearing a headband and the mother was in the newspapers warning other mothers of the danger. I never did found them attractive, but now I positively dislike them.

We call them miners' lamps - don't get me started on babies with pierced ears.......

I find it strange to put a hairband on a bald child & I would think the child would find it irritating.
When I was 8 years, those stretchy hairbands came in fashion and when I wore one ( my hair was thick & curly) it gave me a headache, I can't imagine what a bald child must feel

My DDs never had frilly clothes as babies - just comfortable things that were easy to wash and needed no ironing - and they only got them changed in the day if there was nappy seepage on them.

DD1 had one frilly dress - a present form my Mum. It was ghastly - layers of slippery white nylon with nylon lace. She only wore it once - when my parents were visiting - but unfortunately my OH asked loudly as I walked into the room with babe: "Good grief - whatever is she wearing? She looks like a chimpanzee!" - oops!

Yes exactly . But it gives people something to have a good moan about .

No I'm not the monitor of this thread Nananina, are you ? I just cant stand people who moan over silly things. Like everything else if used responsible they are not a danger. There are more important things than head gear. These young mums are juggling careers, homes and bringing up their children...mostly very well. I for one take my hat off to them.
