Don't spouses always join the PM after their conference speech?

I have had a bad cough for 5 weeks now so she has my sympathy. Believe me it is not simply a matter of a cold!

I think both major parties trade insults and it is all rather childish.

Did Boris set that bloke up to hand TM a P45? The BBC didn't make much of his claim that he did.

Boris always comes across as an upper class twit but he was very popular as London Mayor so a lot of people must have liked him. Don't live in London so don't know why that was.

I Think Mr May did a loving, caring action, good for him

PollyP. All husbands are different, mine included, but PM showed TRUE EMPATHY with the way he embraced her.

Would that happen to me in similar circumstances.

Greyduster - totally agree with your comment about the BBC's attitude. Nothing about the content of TM's speech - just carping about the poor woman coughing, which apparently means she's unfit to be PM. I've been very disappointed in her at no 10 but she's there and her ministers really needs to support her instead of themselves. I hope it's revealed which of the Tory backstabbers let the joker with the P45 into the conference hall. With that lot on your side who needs JC and the Trots to destabilise the country?

I don't like the Tories full stop. However, all credit to the lady for battling on with a stinker of a cold! 'Disastrous?' No, just a cold for heavens sake! But the media circus is having a field day with it. The only slight silver-lining is that overgrown schoolboy Boris won't get in.

I didn't like the way her husband rushed up to comfort her afterwards. At least I wouldn't have liked it if it was me and DH did that in public. In private, maybe!

I'm no fan of hers but I did feel sorry for her. None of it was her fault and it must have been her worst nightmare come true. She may gain sympathy votes.

I hope she stays on as Prime Minister until the next election. She's so disliked now that she's a real asset to the Labour Party.

I have mixed feelings about TM, but at the root of it I think she is basically a decent person, but out of her depth and is surrounded by people that she can't trust (the bastards as John Major called them). Aside from the issues with her throat yesterday which was unfortunate, I just don't think she is a natural speaker, her voice becomes rather shrill and she sounds like a headmistress telling her gals off ( well, she sounds like my old one anyway). I agree that this constant referring to Corbyn at every opportunity is irritating and often irrelevant and sounds spiteful and petty and desperate, the standard technique of attacking the opposition when things are going wrong in your own party. One thing is for sure, whatever your politics, it has to be agreed that the conference was a disaster, even the party faithful were not roused. I did like the shot of Amber Rudd telling Boris to get to his feet, he has shown his true colours and is a busted flush now; a nasty devious bit of work who has lost his gamble, I wouldn't trust him with anything and I do think TM should have fired him before conference, shown that she was in charge. I did not vote for this government, but TM is surrounded by backstabbers and plotters, it is like some Shakespearian tragedy and to see them all ( Leadsom, Boris, Davis etc) all standing there applauding TM was chilling.

Events seem to have conspired against TM. I had high hopes of her leadership but it seems to be one disaster after another. So many things were out of her control but her responses were not always adequate. I feel sorry for her after yesterday, to be ill on such an important occasion was not her fault and I think she was unjustly pilloried for this. I too fear the long knives are out.

I’m fed up with her constant carping about Corbyn as well Luckygirl. If she has any substantial policies that she believes in she should be able to talk about them rather than criticising the leader of the opposition whilst adopting very watered down versions of their policies. And the sort of nasty personal attacks she makes are in my opinion a sign of a very nasty streak and a distinct lack of class.

The BBC would certainly like to think that after yesterday it is all over for Mrs May and are doing their utmost to promote that premise. You could fairly hear the saliva running down their chins this morning on the Today programme. I can't say I have been a huge fan of TM from the start, but she is in the job for better or worse and all this carping from inside and outside the Conservative party is not helping the party or the country. I hope people like Alan Duncan lose their seats when we have another election. What the hell does he know about the British working class?

I am beginning to think that nothing will succeed until the Tories reinvent themselves with a different generation from the existing crew.

Unless these men in grey suits do a momentum and threaten any Tory MP with deselection if they dare to voice an opinion.

When the Daily Telegraph describes her speech as 'disastrous' you know it's more than having a cold. The Tory long-knives are out - I can't see her limping on for much longer.

What we have to do is put aside the poor performance due to a cold and other unfortunate stuff, and consider her adequacy as leader.

I suspect the men in grey suites are busy pouring over the list of possible alternative leaders.

We will know if they think they have one of May goes. If they can’t find someone suitable then she stays to totter on.

It is all very well but we are going through the most difficult period in our economic history (wars apart) and we couldn’t have a more incompetent government if we tried. That is the sad part of it all.

I have much respect for her, she stuck it out yesterday , remained calm, showed a gentle sense of humour, she isn't glitzy, doesn't hog cameras, does give interviews, she has breeding and this seems lacking these days .

Well she did have a bad throat; and the debacle with the P45 was a failure of security rather than a personal fault.

I have no axe to grind for TM, quite the opposite, but she is human and we have to allow her to have a virus.

I find her constant carping about JC really irritating. She spoke on the Today programme and the interviewer politely thanked her for coming and she said " JC did not come on during the Labour conference last week." Pitiful response.

Oh, a week in politics is a long time, anything can happen.
One thing I now feel fairly certain of, Boris won’t be PM thankfully.
All leaders are at the mercy of circumstances, and sometimes just have to hold their nerve.

Isn't she allowed to have a cold?
