Maths based family Board games

silver Have bought a couple for C****** presents, so haven't actually played it yet. With a little imagination, I think it could be used in various ways and even with quite young children, if they're 'into' sums.

Some interesting ideas here that I might look at. Our GS loves to play card games, but has recently rediscovered a magnetic darts game we bought some time ago. Lots of fun and strengthens adding up skills no end (even mine). Beware the “needle” matches though!

Have a look at MOBI game. It's a game comprising number tiles with other tiles having + - x and divide on them. The idea is to build a chain forming a sum and finding the answer.

Not sure I've made sense there, but if you Google you'll get the idea!

We have just discovered Uno which is a very good numbers card game. My three are 7,9 and 11 and they all enjoy it .

Oh Shut The Box. Which is not a board game but good fun.

Not a board game but there is a very good game using several dice called I think Boggle - each player has a score card and throw all the dice and add scores etc. Our children loved the game and it was fun for the adults too - in fact our next door neighbours (in their late 50s) often came in for a game!

You can't beat a good old fashioned pack of cards actually. Cribbage needs lots and lots of calculations and I played umpteen games with my Grandad from the age of six.
Newmarket (Christmas favourite) does sequencing for the younger one and Higher or Lower is good for that age group too.
