red hatters

Well it was a coffee and strawberry cake today, followed by a quick lunch and lots! of nattering. Think she is waiting to see what other people would like to do in regards to activities before any decisions are made. Which is how it should be.

I would be worried that having an outrageously good time would be expected.
I long for a cup of tea and a natter, mostly.

Last year at a gay pride day I took a photo of a group of red hatters
I love the idea but wouldn’t be confident enough to join I never wear hats or purple ?

Must admit to being very intrigued by this, so did a little research and emailed the u.k Red Hatter site asking if there were any groups near me in Fife. Turns out there is a new one just starting out, the organiser or 'Queen' lives in Kirkcaldy.
Met up with her today and a very lively lady she is, so if anyone is interested please message me and I will send you her contact details. All still very much in the early stages just yet.

I think it sounds marvellous and I would gladly join if they had a branch near me!

I find the poem itself so off putting, I would find mixing with those who liked it too unsettling.

I just think the poem plays to all the stereotypes of batty old women that I would almost call it ageist. If you are going to eccentric and individual in old age, how could you want to mix with people doing exactly what you are doing?

Yes, I’m a Red Hatter; funny, we were discussing them at the MK meet today.
We only wear red and purple ‘regalia’ when out in public en masse. It’s interesting to become a spectacle!
I’m in the book group, where we wear normal clothes, likewise in the walking group.
We’ve got a couple of trips coming up, one is to Kew, and several theatre trips. Very good for socialising.

maybe wearing a red hat was signal for the gents?i remember when red dresses were frowned upon.

Yes that saying was prevalent in my youth as well Massimo , a lady of easy virtue maybe !

There is obviously a group in / near Bournemouth .My GD1 saw them when she was staying there and she knew the poem as I had read it to her.

I’m scraping myself off the floor and drying my eyes....my Grandmother occasionally described women who weren’t all they seemed as ‘red hat, no drawers’!

very welcome,we have a couple groups here.friend just turned 94 and is a member.they do have fun and depending on the group can be found partying in outdoor tiki bars every week.
some go on cruises together.daytrips to attractions of all sorts.cooking classes.one group is learning to operate motorcyles.another are kayakers and fisherwomen.
many are widows .younger womsn are getting involved.
gets them out and about .
whatever you can think of someone is doing it.there are gardening groups,calligraphy clubs.many pass on skills and artistic ability.

Come to think of it, I have a red hat somewhere.

There are groups near me and one of my neighbors belongs to one of them. The group does sound like fun, but honestly it puts me off that they always wear purple clothes and a red hat. Every one of them, every time they meet. I've seen pictures and its like a sea of grey hair with red hats and purple clothes .Good luck - you might like it.
