We were talking about Mother's Day and thinking about the things we really wish we'd inherited from them. For me, it would have to be my mum's singing voice - I can't hold a note, yet she can make a song out of the week's shopping list and sound like she should be on stage. What do you wish you'd inherited from your mum?

Her looks
Her singing voice
(am I allowed two?)

Nothing
I have tried hard to be my own person and to lose her negativity.

Her determination to succeed at anything she attempted. Her smile. 56 years since she died, two days after my 21st, but her smile is still crystal clear in my memory.

I have spent most of my life trying to be nothing like her! sad

For me it would be her sewing skills which were incredible. And her patience. And her general goodness.

Her skin and hair and also her elegance and grooming.

No matter how much I try I am still disorganised and somehow not finished off.

Early death

Humbertbear Tue 26-Mar-19 16:17:47

Her fierce loyalty to her family. No one in the family can do any wrong for her.

MacCavity2 Tue 26-Mar-19 16:16:01

Her long slender legs and beautiful ankles.

Grandmashe43 Tue 26-Mar-19 16:10:43

Her beautiful brown laughing eyes.

Calendargirl Tue 26-Mar-19 16:10:19

Her beautiful handwriting.

GillT57 Tue 26-Mar-19 16:10:00

Her needlework and dressmaking skills

nanaK54 Tue 26-Mar-19 16:09:43

Her knitting skills - I can knit but nothing like as well as mum who mastered some really complicated patterns
Maybe her longevity she died aged 93, only a 'maybe' there because her last year wasn't much fun at all, she had definitely 'had enough' when she passed away

My mother's height

Greyduster Tue 26-Mar-19 15:54:28

Absolutely nothing.

M0nica Tue 26-Mar-19 15:47:45

Her social skills and ability to attract people to her.

Day6 Tue 26-Mar-19 15:47:12

Her kindness and her optimism. She thought good of everyone.

I'd like to be as lovely as she was.

Chewbacca Tue 26-Mar-19 15:44:17

Nothing whatsoever. I'm still trying to irradicate the bits I did inherit.

My mother was a Post Mistress and run a small grocery business. She was so good at mental arithmetic, if a delivery man was toting up a bill, mam could arrive at the correct sum before him - and that was reading it upside down so to speak.
She had lovely long fingers and played the piano. She didn't knit but could crochet beautifully. Sadly I have inherited none of these traits though I wish I had. It is 34 years since she died and I miss her so much.

Teetime Tue 26-Mar-19 15:38:04

Her thick skin.

DoraMarr Tue 26-Mar-19 15:36:40

Her looks- at 90 she is still an absolute beauty. My dad was a very handsome man, too. Unfortunately I take after him, and what is handsome in a man isn’t so attractive in a woman. My three daughters are absolutely lovely too. When I’m with them and my mother I am definitely the ugly duckling. Ahh well, at least I didn’t inherit her cooking “skills”......

I loved my mother dearly, but there's nothing I wish I'd inherited from her. I wish I'd inherited my father's patience in putting up with her though! grin

I have inherited my mothers figure despite leading very different lives and having a very different diet, I have morphed into her, Buddah belly etc. sad. She was a lovely lady though x
