Grandad or Granddad? ??

I think ‘Grandad’ looks friendlier/more lovable.

We use grandma and grandpa, but because DS calls us ma and pa. written mar and par, we are grandmar and grandpar.

At the end of the day there is no right or wrong, just what you choose.

I always think that if grandmother, grandson and granddaughter are compound words, then granddad should be too, so it would be double dd.

I’m with Beechnut, not correct perhaps , just looks better somehow.
Personally, just my opinion obviously, I think what ‘goes’ together;

Granny and Grandad
Grandma and Grandpa
Grandmother and Grandfather.

Not a fan of Nanna, though very popular I know, no real male equivalent?

Nain and Taid?

I always think that granddad with double 'd' looks wrong, even though it isn't, so I write 'grandad'.

DH and I are Taid and Nain, Callistemon and in Spain our next door neighbours grandchildren call me Abuela.

I always say the first grandchild gets to name you and I’ve got friends known as Gramps, Nana, Nanny, Grammy, Grampy, Nini!

Mum's parents were Granny and Grandpa. We lived with them during WW2.
Dad's parents were Grandma and Grandad.
Looking back I was so lucky to have all 4 living just round the corner.

This got me thinking. We have grandmother and grandfather, grandma and grandpa, and then there's granddad and......? Why don't we have grandmum? I've never thought about it before!

But to answer your question, I would always spell it Granddad. As Hetty says, why lose one of the 'd's?

Funny isn’t it? I noticed cards spelt both ways in the shops. Must admit I’m with Beechnut MamaCaz and Doodle. - one ‘d’.

It’s kind of wrong - but it does just look more friendly!

When they were very young all four of the Grandchildren always called me Nanfer. The eldest boy now sixteen calls me Grandad, but the eldest girl now eighteen and the two younger ones still call me Nanfer.

I still like to be called Nanfer but I cannot recall how I ever came about be named as such. ??

In my family we have Grandma, Grandpa, Grandmother and Grandfather. Nobody has ever used Granddad, but if we did I think it should be spelt with double d.

I don’t like Nanny or Nana at all. In fact I never even heard them until I was well grown up. To me those words mean a children’s nurse.

Well for me it’s got to be Nannie and Grandad, I don’t like the spelling of nanny reminds me of a nanny goat. I’ve never actually seen grandad spelt granddad , I will have to look out for that, I’ve never seen it printed on cards that way either,

All the grannies in our family have their Christian name added on, so I'm Granny Sue. Hate Nanna although both my grandmothers were called Nanna with their surnames tagged on. Adults didn't have Christian names in those days! My DH is called Gramps, but I'm not keen on that, but that's what he chose.

I wouldn’t dream of criticising someone else’s choice of spelling or name (proud Nanna here, now just waiting for the inevitable goat comment ), but DH is Grandad.

Nanny here too Maggiemaybe I am happy with that and love goats. Bubba for their Grandfather.

We are Teeta and Giddu.
The Arabic for Grandma and Grandad.
When I tried to explain to our 4 year old granddaughter that a Teeta was the same as Grandma she got terribly cross.
“ You’re my Teeta, not a Grandma” she said!!
