Cradle Cap

Oh, and it never came back! I did this maybe at 3 months. She's now 5.5 months.

I now shampoo her head every two days. I think it was getting worse because I was avoiding touching it and I was just adding to the problem by rubbing oil.into it without manual exfoliation.

Use any natural oil. It's fine.

I have a 5 month old. The cradle cap wasn't coming off with olive oil, just getting worse. I used a special cradle cap comb and a baby brush (soft kind). Take a dollop of coconut oil or oil. Be generous with the application. Massage it in gently. Then use the baby brush in soft, circular motions round and round to roughen up the cap and loosen the scales. Then use the cradle cap.brush to gently remove the flakes. If you lool.on YouTube, you'll see exactly what to do. I repeated 4 times over 2 days. Stop when it's red or pink. Don't scratch at it. The comb works!!!! It's 4 euro in my area. Amazing stuff!!!!

These days they don't wash hair and bathe babies and toddlers daily. My 5 year old DGS even still has a kind of dandruff/cradle cap. It'll come off in the end, tempting as it is to run a comb through it.

As long as it's not causing any infection I shouldn't bother about it. Mt DiLs don't seem bothered, so I'm not saying anything.

Just be sure it is cradle cap and not eczema. I was using olive oil on DS's cradle cap, he also had bad nappy rash and watched as one crept down over his neck, face and back and the other worked up his tummy and back. He didn't have cradle cap or nappy rash. He had what became quite severe eczema.

I was always very wary of saying 'cradle cap' when my DD had it. It always came out as 'cradle crap'

When mine were babies, in the 60s and early 70s, we were advised to use Fullers Earth powder. It took several applications to work though.

When mine were babies I used to buy a little pot of cream and massage it into the scalp but I suspect modern shampoos are just as effective.

Both of mine had cradle cap and I used Bircabonate of soda and water.
Mix bicarbonate of soda and water in equal amounts to make a paste, apply it while they are lying back in the bath, massage in for a minute, then wash off.

The other bit of kit you need is a nit comb - you'll need it sooner or later anyway - use it to remove the stuff that you've softened with the oil. It lifts the cradle cap much better than merely shampooing it off. And its very satisfying to do

I used olive oil on my sons head when he was a baby. It worked well. I wouldn't bother using any special lotion.

We used to rub in Vaseline and put a cotton hat on overnight, then shampoo in the morning and rub gently with a towel. My daughter used olive oil instead. I'm sure you don't need special treatments or shampoos.
