What on earth is wrong with me?

Hello all,

Feeling rather less than tickety boo confused

Freezing cold and shivering (heating is on and turned up to almost 23 shock) headache.

Was fine this morning, until halfway through my mug of tea, when I suddenly had to dash to the loo.

It wasnt pretty, a mop and bucket had to be deployed blush

Had a shower, and a slice of dry toast, waited until I thought it was safe, and set off to Lidl.

Gentle reader, if you are of a sensitive disposition, look away now.

On getting out of the car, the world fell out of my bottom shockblush Fortunately I was wearing dark jeans.

Back in car (carrier bag on seat, just in case). Indoors, clothes in the washing machine and another shower.

It is since then that I have had the bad headache and felt so very cold. I'm usually the one complaining that house is too hot!

Any ideas? I'm not usually prone to bowel problems.

phoenix poor you. I hope you feel better soon.

Callistemon we discussed immodium, and decided against for exactly that reason, plus it wouldn't have helped with the bloody awful pain, so codeine it is.

phoenix Sun 26-Jan-20 19:34:21

Thanks all, yes, Doc did say it can cause constipation, but unlikely to with me at this stage, if it means that I don't get up 8 times between going to bed and getting up, I won't be complaining.

Moggie57 this all started on Friday morning. We have gone back over what have both eaten prior to that and apart from lunch on Thursday, Mr P and I have eaten exactly the same meals. My lunch that day was a pot of Naked Rice and some Ritter coconut chocolate.

Callistemon Sun 26-Jan-20 18:33:55

The codeine will bung you up, although I have heard that it is better to 'Let it go'

Sorry, you probably don't feel up to my off-key warbling, phoenix

Jane10 Sun 26-Jan-20 17:47:44

I'm glad the doctor came. Hope the Codeine helped to relieve the pain. Good luck with the tube and the little stick ?!

moggie57 Sun 26-Jan-20 17:40:51

Sounds like something you ate at least a day ago.dont stop your poos with diocalm dont bung yourself up .let it go through.could be something that had eggs or seafood in .even cheese.think back to what you ate..

Callistemon Sun 26-Jan-20 17:21:06

Codeine bungs you up too (sorry for the graphic description) which should help.

I hope they find out the exact cause asap and that it goes as quickly as it arrived.

kittylester Sun 26-Jan-20 17:20:53

A bit like poo sticks then, phoenix?

Hope you feel better for some reassurance. And, I dont think you can be feeling so bad as your sense of humour is still there. grin

phoenix Sun 26-Jan-20 17:18:16

Very nice Doctor has just been, given me codeine for pain relief, and a nice little tube with a small spatula in it.

Somehow I dont think it's for serving the salt at the table, but pretty sure it's designed to be single use!

curvygran950 Sun 26-Jan-20 13:31:35

Good to hear, I hope you feel better soon .
Just to add to readymeals post - ask the doc if they’d like to wash their hands before and after examining you .

3nanny6 Sun 26-Jan-20 13:22:57

That's what they need to do, the doctor can give you the best advice and hopefully you will soon be on the mend.

ReadyMeals Sun 26-Jan-20 13:09:23

I'll be interested to know if the doctor bothers to wear a mask. There have been accusations in the media that medical professionals are not as careful about spreading infection as they could be.

phoenix Sun 26-Jan-20 13:05:15

Thank you all.

Jane10 Sun 26-Jan-20 12:47:39

Good. I hope they will be able to help and that you'll feel much better soon. ?!

kittylester Sun 26-Jan-20 12:47:22

Hi phoenix, I've only just recaught up with this and I'm sorry you are still suffering. How awful.

Please let us know what the doctor says.

phoenix Sun 26-Jan-20 12:45:31

Hello 3nanny6 I'm 61.

Some news, Doctor phoned back and wanted me to go to Barnstaple to be seen. She then realised how long it would take to get there (about 45 minutes minimum) and is sending a doctor to me.

3nanny6 Sun 26-Jan-20 12:33:15

phoenix not sure how old you are and I know it should not matter but the older we get the more at risk we are. You have had the bug for over 24 hours and it still sounds bad possibly it is some kind of food poisoning as that often gives more abdomen pain than the usual bug.
Have you ever tried Imodium? it's for diarrhoea it is quite good and usually works quickly but of course professional advice could be what you need.
Get well soon.

phoenix Sun 26-Jan-20 10:58:03

merlot no to both, only things I take regularly are my inhalers for COPD.

phoenix Sun 26-Jan-20 10:46:50

Hello all,

Phoned 111, will get a call back from a doctor within 6 hours, but was advised they don't usually do visits for this sort of thing because of the risk of infecting others!

merlotgran Sun 26-Jan-20 10:33:08

Phoenix, Do you by any chance take omeprazole or ranitidine for acid reflux or similar?

When DH recently had Cdiff (symptoms very similar to yours)
he was told to stop taking omeprazole as it can lead to Cdiff - even though his was caused by long term antibiotics.

Hope you soon recover.

Callistemon Sun 26-Jan-20 10:24:49

I agree with Jane10, this seems more than a 24 hour bug and perhaps it's time to have a test to find out what the appropriate treatment should be.

Jane10 Sun 26-Jan-20 09:51:45

Phoning 111 should result in a visit btw I didn't mean waiting till tomorrow.

Jane10 Sun 26-Jan-20 09:50:22

Phoenix it's doctor time. This has gone on a bit long. You are at risk of dehydration. Call the doctor!

ReadyMeals Sun 26-Jan-20 09:47:42

I think when we were children, people were a lot stricter about isolating sick people and one was told to stay in bed when unwell. So things didn't spread quite as freely. Nowadays there tends to be a feeling that it's a bit wimpish to sit around when sick and people push themselves to carry on - so they meet more people while carrying germs.

harrigran Sun 26-Jan-20 09:31:49

Noro virus is very efficient at reproducing and mutates all the time so nothing is going to stop it. The spread is not confined to things you touch but is in droplet form in the air.
DH once went into the gents at a service station, took one step through the door and turned on his heel as there was a man projectile vomiting, by the time we reached home DH was very ill.
I often wonder where this bug came from, I don't remember anything as vicious as this when I was a child.
