Do you have a day when everything happens one thing after another, even though it was pre-planned .
You wake up in the morning thinking how will I cope?
First we do our main weekly Tesco shop.
Then I go with my friend to the old age home visit.
Come home, make lunch. Some pre-prepared
Then young woman comes to clean our home. I have to clear up the pots etc previously.
She left @ 5pm.
I am absolutely kn......ckered.

Ellieanne, it's a hit and a miss. I have now given up on the crosses.
You are right, they are tasteless and I think spoil the buns. ?

Fennel Fri 07-Feb-20 12:15:29

ps @ Ellieanne - those buns look delicious.
When I have a burst of energy I make fruit buns. I've always got the ingredients in.

Fennel Fri 07-Feb-20 12:07:42

That's right Greymar - we've been together now for 40 years as the old song goes.
He's younger than me, that's part of the problem - .I try to keep up with him. I tell him, " just you wait until you're 84"
Then he says "I hope I don't have to live that long!"
We've decided we're both going to go together.

Ellianne Fri 07-Feb-20 12:02:31

Thanks Marydoll. Do you every find the cross lines on top are chewy? Maybe I use too much flour? We have to spit them out, they're like paper.

Marydoll Fri 07-Feb-20 11:32:29

Do you mean me? I am a busy body, as opposed to a busybody. ?
Then again I might be both! I ?

Urmstongran Fri 07-Feb-20 10:49:43

We could try dragonfly - a thread for #lazygrans but some ‘busy’ bodies (hehe!) would try to hijack it .....

Greymar Fri 07-Feb-20 10:21:58

I think Fennel already has a partner but nice try.

Rufus2 Fri 07-Feb-20 09:45:27

What can we older grans do to compensate for our decline?
Fennel Speak for yourself ! wink Get out more and find a Grandad with "Get up and Go!;" then yours might come back! grin

I am completely sloth like , according to the mountains of activities that some of you manage to get through.

If it can be bottled, I should like some of your, whatever it is, to get me going please.

My get up and go, went ages ago, and won't come back. ( like the boomerang) ?

Marydoll, you are a whirling dervish.

EllanVannin Fri 07-Feb-20 09:10:47

I like your style, Urmstongran.

dragonfly46 Fri 07-Feb-20 08:58:15

Urmston I am ?.
Maybe we should start a separate thread with that enquiry ?

Urmstongran Fri 07-Feb-20 08:56:12

Very quick Beechnut! It past me by .... whoosh!

Urmstongran Fri 07-Feb-20 08:54:03

dragonfly As you see no cleaning involved I am ashamed to say!

What is this activity you speak of? Is it some kind of ritualistic behaviour? I know of it not.

Gaunt47 Fri 07-Feb-20 08:29:03

Yes please Marydoll I'd like the recipe too.
Put it on your list of things to do, probably be item number 83?

Marydoll Fri 07-Feb-20 08:04:14

Really, Beechnut, I expected you, as a regular poster, to read my mind. wink ?
The RECIPE is falling to bits, just like me!

Beechnut Fri 07-Feb-20 07:53:29

See what you wrote there Marydoll Screen shot - holes in paper ?

Marydoll Fri 07-Feb-20 07:30:25

No problem Dragonfly. I will need to type it up, instead of screen shotting. There are holes in the paper!

dragonfly46 Fri 07-Feb-20 02:02:05

I would like the recipe please Marydoll.

Marydoll Thu 06-Feb-20 23:18:24

Ellianne, the dough was left over from yesterday's batch. I keep it in the fridge overnight and let it come back to room temp. They are never as successful as the previous day's batch, but I hate waste and they are edible, just not as light.

It's a recipe from the Sunday Times from over thirty years ago. It's falling to pieces, but if you like I could try and post it.
I have used other recipes, but always come back to this one.

I tend to make the dough early in the morning and do other chores, until it rises, but certainly not 21/2 hrs. I have been known to make it late at night and let it rise slowly overnight in a cool room. This recipe never fails me.

dragonfly46 Thu 06-Feb-20 22:42:03

Wow I too am lazy gran urmston.

My day was busy compared to most days.

Checked GN, FB, Emails, played the odd addictive computer game.
Got up, showered, washed head.
Went to hospital and saw my lovely oncology registrar after buying coffee.
Rushed home because I had forgotten to take my steroids which are now keeping me awake because I took them too late.
Rushed out again to Tesco.
Had lunch then watched Doctors and Brits Abroad while playing computer games.
Cooked dinner.
Put on PJ’s, while DH cleared up, and sat in front of Death in Paradise.
Now in bed.
As you see no cleaning involved I am ashamed to say!

Ellianne Thu 06-Feb-20 22:24:24

I'm surprised you made hot cross buns before lunch in your busy day Marydoll. I use Mary Berry's recipe and they take 2 1/2 hours, as do Jamie's and Paul Hollywood's. Which recipe do you use?

Marydoll Thu 06-Feb-20 22:20:31

Urmstongran ?

Urmstongran Thu 06-Feb-20 22:16:49

I think it best if I keep quiet.

kircubbin2000 Thu 06-Feb-20 21:02:49

Got up at 6 afraid of sleeping in and missing my early lift to hospital appointment. Heavy traffic and stressful search to find right department. Then all went well, went for breakfast on way home, still not allowed to drive so spent afternoon making soup and reading. Had a nap then watched tv, now exhausted! Pathetic!
