What are these orange stains that have appeared on my hands overnight?

This happened first about 3 weeks ago and I thought it was because I had handled a Satsuma. It wouldn't wash off but disappeared over 24 hours. Then I woke up this morning to find dark iodine coloured stains down my index finger and light orange blotches on both palms and on the back of my thumb. I have googled this and nobody seems to know what it is so I am wondering if anyone on gn has come across this?

Time I dropped back in. Adeline please stop trying to frighten people. It is not Addison’s disease where the staining is totally different and there are other symptoms too. People on here have visited doctors who haven’t been able to identify the orange stain but would certainly have known if it was Addisons.

The best we have come up with is excess carotene which you can find in plenty of fruit and vegetable even lettuce exacerbated if you are stressed. People have experienced it way before Covid arrived soCovid is not an overriding factor. It won’t scrub off so is internal and not external and appears on the hands and/or feet, disappearing after a few days. I have had it 2 or 3 times over several years with no other symptoms so apart from wondering exactly what it is it has not harmed me.

Patches of hyperpigmentation are indeed one of the symptoms of Addison's disease.

Update 4 hrs later. It's already faded some, but looks really dry. I forgot to add I never got the covid vaccines. I know someone was wondering if that may be something to consider.
It's also no where else on my body, and no other family member has it.

25Avalon: thank you for the updated post! I'm glad to hear it's not giving anyone long lasting issues. We may never know the cause, but glad it doesn't seem to be anything harmful.

Just woke up with the rust spots on my palm 2 days ago and I don’t get it. Nothing gets rid of it!

Take photos of it when it’s at its worse then make a doctors appointment. If it has gone when you see him show him the photos and tell him it keeps appearing and disappearing. I had a rash that kept appearing and disappearing, by the time I saw the doctor it had gone. My husband took photos when it was at its worse and I was covered. I showed her the photos and she knew immediately what it was.

Lydie45 good idea but people on here have seen the doctor and no diagnosis has been reached. We eould all like to know exactly what causes it although we have gradually formed our own conclusions.

Hello everyone. So this happened to me for the first time this morning I was quite freaked out. I showed one of my friends. She asked me if I used rubber gloves to wash anything last night? I thought about it and yes I had. I had to wash a cast iron frying pan. The gloves I used had a few small holes in them and my hands in those fingers were a little wet when I took the gloves off.
I hope that this is the cause of it something so simple. Have a good day.

I never use rubber gloves. The orange stains are not external. IKDS try getting the stains off. If they come off then it could be the gloves. If they don't then it isn't the explanation. Don't panic though the marks do disappear after a couple of days.

I also got this and wondering what it was, i suspect it is because i tried making a campfire using flint and steel and burned cotton i was holding the cotton while it burned but it didn't burn my hand i blow on it and put powdered charcoal then it burned i left and wanted to wash my hands i washed it multiple times with soap and water and nothing seems to work it doesnt go away it even had a weird burnt smell.

What are these shitstains and how to remove them?

25Avalon Mon 24-Jun-24 14:59:31

Bakayaro you can’t. We think it’s connected to eating products that contain carotene especially if you are stressed. It won’t scrub off cos it’s internal not external. It’s very puzzling. Posters have seen doctors who have no explanation so we’ve worked out what we can if you read this very long thread. It seems to come overnight and disappears in a couple of days.

Does anyone had this for more than a year?

Akivi93 Sat 06-Jul-24 06:51:49

I have it on my hands and feet. I have been dealing with this off and on for about 8 years. So way before covid. I haven't had it happen in awhile till last night. Its all over my hands when I woke up. I went back to bed and it spread to my feet. I have never had it on top of my feet and arms like this before.

Akivi93 Sat 06-Jul-24 08:03:01

I have for about 8 years, it only appears every now and then for me. I am female, 31 years old.

Like all of you, I too woke with orange stains but they appear only on my right hand. In my case I'm pretty sure I know what caused it and maybe some of you can relate it to the appearance of yours. I spent two hours last night soothing my horse during the fireworks. He is paddocked at night in a space without grass. What works best for him is for me to speak soothingly to him while I pull grass and hand feed it to him, which I did for two hours. I pulled the grass only with my right hand. This morning my right hand is deeply orange on my index finger and thumb, especially in the crook of the index finger which I used to break the grass. I have a few theories: (1) the "blood" from the grass stained my hand (LOL), (2) there is some type of metal or iodine within the grass that stained my hand. Where would this come from....look up in the sky sometime and notice the chemicals sprayed from various planes. They are not typical contrails because the streaks STAY in the sky and spread out, eventually creating a blanket cloud cover. You'll often see "grids" where multiple trails are created. Within those trails are various chemicals, including barium salts, metals other dust particles. These things eventually get taken up by the soil and into plants. (3) Its a naturally occurring reaction to something within the grass (doubtful).

Callistemon213 Sat 06-Jul-24 17:48:57

Grass stains, I would think. Grass is rich in beta-carotene.
Anything else is a cinspiracy theory.
I've had stubborn brownish yellow stains from stoning plums.
Scrubbing with salt and lemon juice removed them.

Callistemon213 Sat 06-Jul-24 17:54:03

Carotenemia is caused by a high intake of foods rich in beta-carotene or vitamin supplements.

Other causes are possible but need diagnosis by a doctor.

I have the same and want to chime in with my theories, those do wash off for me but it takes a whole shower session.

1. It's tinea nigra, but orange for some reason. Tinea nigra is a rare but harmless fungal infection. It has no other symptoms but dark spots on your feet and palms.
2.My sweat becomes orange for some reason and stains me in my sleep, it is possible and there are disorders that give you colored sweat.

It's weird that those are on palms and feet, it would be easy to explain if they appeared only on palms or only on feet.

I woke up this morning to find my hands looking like this, not knowing what these orange spots were, like henna

I have read many posts and see that food is not the common factor in this condition

As for me, two days ago, I was in a state of panic because of something. That night, I felt pain in my entire body and did not give the matter any importance. Yesterday morning, I felt like my left half was paralyzed, so I knew that my blood pressure had risen because of that situation. The whole day passed while I was in bed because of the pain. I thought this was related to high blood pressure

I took a magnesium and B6 anti-stress pill .

Could the components of the light have anything to do with this?
