What are these orange stains that have appeared on my hands overnight?

This happened first about 3 weeks ago and I thought it was because I had handled a Satsuma. It wouldn't wash off but disappeared over 24 hours. Then I woke up this morning to find dark iodine coloured stains down my index finger and light orange blotches on both palms and on the back of my thumb. I have googled this and nobody seems to know what it is so I am wondering if anyone on gn has come across this?

Like all of you, I too woke with orange stains but they appear only on my right hand. In my case I'm pretty sure I know what caused it and maybe some of you can relate it to the appearance of yours. I spent two hours last night soothing my horse during the fireworks. He is paddocked at night in a space without grass. What works best for him is for me to speak soothingly to him while I pull grass and hand feed it to him, which I did for two hours. I pulled the grass only with my right hand. This morning my right hand is deeply orange on my index finger and thumb, especially in the crook of the index finger which I used to break the grass. I have a few theories: (1) the "blood" from the grass stained my hand (LOL), (2) there is some type of metal or iodine within the grass that stained my hand. Where would this come from....look up in the sky sometime and notice the chemicals sprayed from various planes. They are not typical contrails because the streaks STAY in the sky and spread out, eventually creating a blanket cloud cover. You'll often see "grids" where multiple trails are created. Within those trails are various chemicals, including barium salts, metals other dust particles. These things eventually get taken up by the soil and into plants. (3) Its a naturally occurring reaction to something within the grass (doubtful).

I have for about 8 years, it only appears every now and then for me. I am female, 31 years old.

I have it on my hands and feet. I have been dealing with this off and on for about 8 years. So way before covid. I haven't had it happen in awhile till last night. Its all over my hands when I woke up. I went back to bed and it spread to my feet. I have never had it on top of my feet and arms like this before.

Time I dropped back in. Adeline please stop trying to frighten people. It is not Addison’s disease where the staining is totally different and there are other symptoms too. People on here have visited doctors who haven’t been able to identify the orange stain but would certainly have known if it was Addisons.

The best we have come up with is excess carotene which you can find in plenty of fruit and vegetable even lettuce exacerbated if you are stressed. People have experienced it way before Covid arrived soCovid is not an overriding factor. It won’t scrub off so is internal and not external and appears on the hands and/or feet, disappearing after a few days. I have had it 2 or 3 times over several years with no other symptoms so apart from wondering exactly what it is it has not harmed me.

Does anyone had this for more than a year?

25Avalon Mon 24-Jun-24 14:59:31

Bakayaro you can’t. We think it’s connected to eating products that contain carotene especially if you are stressed. It won’t scrub off cos it’s internal not external. It’s very puzzling. Posters have seen doctors who have no explanation so we’ve worked out what we can if you read this very long thread. It seems to come overnight and disappears in a couple of days.

What are these shitstains and how to remove them?

I also got this and wondering what it was, i suspect it is because i tried making a campfire using flint and steel and burned cotton i was holding the cotton while it burned but it didn't burn my hand i blow on it and put powdered charcoal then it burned i left and wanted to wash my hands i washed it multiple times with soap and water and nothing seems to work it doesnt go away it even had a weird burnt smell.

I never use rubber gloves. The orange stains are not external. IKDS try getting the stains off. If they come off then it could be the gloves. If they don't then it isn't the explanation. Don't panic though the marks do disappear after a couple of days.

No matter how irresistible you find him, it's best to keep your hands off Donald Trump.

Hello everyone. So this happened to me for the first time this morning I was quite freaked out. I showed one of my friends. She asked me if I used rubber gloves to wash anything last night? I thought about it and yes I had. I had to wash a cast iron frying pan. The gloves I used had a few small holes in them and my hands in those fingers were a little wet when I took the gloves off.
I hope that this is the cause of it something so simple. Have a good day.

Lydie45 good idea but people on here have seen the doctor and no diagnosis has been reached. We eould all like to know exactly what causes it although we have gradually formed our own conclusions.

Take photos of it when it’s at its worse then make a doctors appointment. If it has gone when you see him show him the photos and tell him it keeps appearing and disappearing. I had a rash that kept appearing and disappearing, by the time I saw the doctor it had gone. My husband took photos when it was at its worse and I was covered. I showed her the photos and she knew immediately what it was.

Just woke up with the rust spots on my palm 2 days ago and I don’t get it. Nothing gets rid of it!

25Avalon: thank you for the updated post! I'm glad to hear it's not giving anyone long lasting issues. We may never know the cause, but glad it doesn't seem to be anything harmful.

Abe7465 Mon 10-Jun-24 20:30:46

Update 4 hrs later. It's already faded some, but looks really dry. I forgot to add I never got the covid vaccines. I know someone was wondering if that may be something to consider.
It's also no where else on my body, and no other family member has it.

Patches of hyperpigmentation are indeed one of the symptoms of Addison's disease.

Skin staining like this is a symptom of adrenal insufficiency ie Addison's disease.

Joining the club as well. Just woke up with this weird stain.
37 female, Va, USA. I'm not going to add any female medical issues I've had, as there are obviously men with this condition as well. I have had hormonal imbalances and recently started taking 10mg every other day of DHEA to give my testosterone a little boost. I take multivitamins based on my functional medicine practitioner and my Dr's advice (they're both on the same page with getting to the root cause vs. treating symptoms). I haven't taken any new vitamins in a couple of yrs. I also had low vit d but I'm doing really well with that now. No tanners, dyes, iodine, new hygiene products, etc. Last night I did have a salad with grilled chicken from Outback, plus a couple BBQ wings with their sauce and my heart was racing from all the sodium. I drank a ton of water and felt back to normal by bed time. I haven't checked if my husband or teens (they're at work and school) have it, but my 7 yr old doesn't. I'll update if they do. I'm trying to think of anything similar to any other posters. It doesn't wash off, it does have a slight metallic smell but my taste is fine. I haven't been on a hike or done any yard work for awhile. My routine has been the same for a couple of weeks now. Oh I also have really bad seasonal allergies. But again I haven't implemented any new allergy meds. I use the same ones I've been taking for awhile. We change the filters in our HVAC system regularly, and have a unit that kills bacteria when its filtered through. I'm hoping it's nothing liver related, I've been drinking alcohol quite a bit while engaging in summer activities. Someone also mentioned something about thyroiditis or thyroidism. I did have some issues with my thyroid a couple of yrs ago, but again my last bloodwork (in May) was normal. I'm racking my brain to be as thorough as possible in case this helps anyone figure it out. It's crazy the doctors and nurses don't know what it is. I really hope we get to the bottom of this. Some posters have had it going on for years!
Oh one more thing, someone mentioned addisons disease but the orange marks like ours aren't a symptom, and I'm not struggling with the other symptoms of addisons. I actually feel really great considering some of the health issues I've had in the past. I'll update if I can think of anything else.

This is bizarre. I also know a couple of people who this has been happening too and also found lack of vitamin D, possibly covid related!

orangeisthenewblack Thu 30-May-24 10:17:02

I've been here for almost 4 years now, had a 1-2 year break until couple of months ago and now, here it is again :D
