I enjoy gransnet as a new member, but was wondering how old you all are. I became a gran for the first time at 59 (kids were late starters!) I wouldn't have been bothered with what family call my old lady forum then but now at 74 have more time on my hands and find it interesting.

What made you join

I’m 49.
My ds (23) has 3 stepchildren, age 5, 3, and 1 month.
They have been together on and off for a few years.
The children are adorable and call me Nanny. They don’t see their fathers his family, so he is the only Daddy they know.

I’m 53... too old for Mumsnet, and I really enjoy company but work nights in a Locked unit, love my colleagues but we sleep when not together or we are with family. A lot of my friends are from where I used to live and I don’t get to visit them enough. I’m more of a writer than a talker.. so you guys tick all the boxes! Plus I live the stories.... I’m learning loads! ???

I'm 63 and became a grandmother for first time 16 years ago, now grandma to 6, but also have 4 step grandchildren oldest aged 24, youngest aged 3. 16 year old was staying at my house studying for GCSE's when schools closed and decided to stay here, enjoying her being here although I'm working full-time. Don't post a lot but always enjoy reading the different threads.

My first GD was born when i was 43, i am now 60. I love reading the posts everyday, but suffer with a mental health illness. Before the virus, i didn't go out of my house very often, maybe once a week, if i was feeling well, or not for months if i was not too well. I can't mix with people very well, so have no friends. Thanks to all of you who post daily, i look forward to reading your posts daily.

I'm 63....will be 64 in May, and first became a grandmother 10 years ago. Second GC is now 4. They are both lovely boys. But as I mentioned in February on another thread regarding estranged grandparents, I don't see them any more. Heartbroken, but after 10 years of trying to be included in their lives I've sadly finally accepted it just isn't going to happen. One good thing is, I suppose, that now we are locked in our homes, it has prepared us and I am only missing them just the same as I was "pre-virus". It hasn't been such a shock to my system as it has for other Grandparents.

I am 61 on Easter Sunday. I had my first grandchild 2 years ago and now have two and one more on the way. I was always very happy not to be a Gran but now I love it.
I joined Gransnet about three months ago I don’t often post, so many of you have such wisdom and commonsense and good humour.

I was a grandmom(nanny)at 37 and at 67 I am now a great grandma of two little boys of 5 and 1.Have five children, twelve grandchildren and the two great grandsons ?

glammagran Fri 03-Apr-20 19:21:38

Had mine at 19, 21 and 38. Became a Gran at 50 as older 2 were far more conventional waiting until marriages in their 30’s before becoming parents. Youngest though had her daughter a week after completing her masters degree at 24. Of them all, I would say she is the best mother though.
