I enjoy gransnet as a new member, but was wondering how old you all are. I became a gran for the first time at 59 (kids were late starters!) I wouldn't have been bothered with what family call my old lady forum then but now at 74 have more time on my hands and find it interesting.

What made you join

I was what I like to call an "elderly primate", having first child at 32, stillbirth at 34 and second child at 36. \So am now soon to be 76. One of the things I really appreciate about this forum is the very wide age span. As one ages, one tends to lose contact with young people, which makes it really hard to keep up to date with changes.

Joined about almost a year ago. I will be 75 in May on Empire Day!!! I share the day with Queen Victoria bless her. I have 8 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren and 2 Great grandchildren. I was a grandmother at 44 and a great grandmother by that child in 2016! I love being a grandmother / GG but still don’t feel I’m old enough. Inside I feel 25!!! Haha

I became a Grandma at 51.
For my generation, I was an early(ish) starter, becoming a mother in 1981 at the age of 21, but didn't become a Grandma for another thirty years.
It was my first dgc's mum who pointed me in the direction of Gransnet, so she has lot to answer for!

I'm 60. I joined Gransnet because I was finding Mumsnet too young. At that point I wasn't a gran and, in fact, I still don't have a grandchild that is blood related but I have been "Gangan" to my daughter's partner's DD now for nearly three years and they got married last August so it now feels permanent and I'm allowing myself to believe that she and I will, indeed be part of each other's lives until I shuffle off! grin

I'm 72, first GC at 47, again at 54, then 55, lastly at 59, joined when I retired, find it helpful since I was widowed 3 years ago.

pollyolly I didn’t know where they lived apart from the fact they were in my general area and someone posted about a meet-up in my area which is where I met the other Grans, we have been meeting once a month at a local cafe for probably 4 yrs now they are all lovely grans.
You could post suggesting a meet up in your local area.

I became a grandmother when I was 57. I have an almost 16 year old granddaughter and twin grandsons who recently had their 14th birthday.

I was 56 when my first granddaughter was born and joined gransnet shortly afterwards. I’m now 63 and Nana to my 3 adored grandchildren. I don’t contribute often to the forums but look forward everyday to reading the threads, which sometimes have me laughing out loud. A real tonic, especially in these difficult times.

pollyolly Fri 03-Apr-20 17:17:42

I am 76 and have 13 grandchildren ranging from 23 to 3 years old.
TANITH, how do you know where the other gransnetters live to get to know them?

CBBL Fri 03-Apr-20 17:10:55

I am 72 and only a gran through marriage (i.e. the children of step-children). I have a congenital abnormality that means I cannot carry a baby to full term. Several miscarriages.

I'm 60. Elder GC will be 11 this month, younger will be 2 in May.

Madmaggie Fri 03-Apr-20 16:26:33

I'm 70 (blimey when did that happen) but not in my head. My body sometimes claims I'm at least 170, especially when faced with stairs, technology, and anything that requires me to kneel! Thank heavens I shall only be required to do a slight bob when presented to the Queen when I receive my KBW (knackered but willing). I have found a few things in later life - the joy of gin, grannyhood, glasses, a happy marriage, a decent bloke, retirement, did I mention gin?

Angeleyes58xx Fri 03-Apr-20 16:19:26

I'm 61 and have been nanny to 2 since I was 54.

I joined GN last year whilst looking for advice on a difficult problem I was having with my daughter. Whilst never having the courage to post my problem I did find a wealth of advice from G'sNetters so thank you all.
