I enjoy gransnet as a new member, but was wondering how old you all are. I became a gran for the first time at 59 (kids were late starters!) I wouldn't have been bothered with what family call my old lady forum then but now at 74 have more time on my hands and find it interesting.

What made you join

I don’t think age comes into it. You either are a gran or your not. Also read something recently about not giving out to much personal info

I am 67 and my first GC was born in 2007 so 55 when I first became 'Nana'. I was quiet young when I had my first child - I was 20. I now have three GC from my daughter and one GC from my son. I love looking at all the GNs posts and I can identify with so many on this site. It's like belonging to our own little community.

I'm 64. My grandsons are 8 and nearly 3 so my daughters started late too. My eldest grandson lives in Australia and was born there. My youngest grandson lives not far from me and is a lovely handful!!!

54 when the first of our 11 grands arrived. Eldest is now 20 and 1/2 way through her teacher training degree. Sadly not actually seeing much of any of them right now (Covid-19 getting in the way) but normally do enjoy quite a lot of contact.

Grandma at 46, I am now 97. My grandchildren married late and my eldest great grandchild is 21.
Joined GN to keep me in touch with the outside world when I became housebound a few years ago.
I believe I am the eldest gransnetter.

I joined because of getting locked in, and living on my own. I am lucky as I have a dog to walk so can get out but am really missing anyone to 'talk' to

I was 68 when I first became a granny. I was latish when I had my first child, and my children later still. We used to joke they were waiting until we were 70. I shall be 80 in June and only joined Gransnet a couple of years ago.

Tess59 Fri 03-Apr-20 14:58:23

First grandchild at 56, I'm now 60.

I am 65 and not a gran but would like to be. Had a late much wanted baby at age 36 3/4 yrs after many years of trying.
He doesn’t want children but I am secretly hoping he changes his mind. Would never try and persuade him, it’s his decision and his life.

I’m 59 and joined Gransnet after looking for advice on makeup. We were due to get married this month to coincide with our 60th birthdays, and I wanted to look nice. The wedding is now postponed until next year.
I have 2 DGDs and first became a grandmother at age 56.

Sounds like a competition going on. A 'friend' told me I was getting left on the shelf when I was not married aged 21!

GreenGran78 Fri 03-Apr-20 14:46:56

Okimherenow No need to feel embarrassed. The conductor of our choir started a concert with her mobile phone on the music stand, explaining to the audience that her daughter was in labour. When it rang, right in the middle of a song, we stopped dead while she answered it, and announced, “It’s a boy!” That got a better round of applause than our singing did!

Kryptonite Fri 03-Apr-20 14:46:46

Why is 59 considered a late starter?

maggic Fri 03-Apr-20 14:46:07

My first grandchild was born 10 years ago when I was 60 and I now have three more, aged 8, 6 and 5, with another due this summer. I look at Gransnet every day but very rarely post. What a wonderful site for support and advice. I am in awe of the profound wisdom of many of the posters!

I became a grandmother the week before I was 39!! had said I wanted to be at least 40 before I wanted to be one, but wasn't to be. I now have 8 grandchildren , plus foster grandson and 2 foster grandaughters, one of whom has had a baby, my first great grandson, and also my daughter adopted a little boy, so the total is 11, I also have 2 great grand daughters, one whom was adopted by my first DGS, who also fosters!!! Love them all and am missing them all as well, we were supposed to have 2 christenings this month, but have had to postponed them. By the way I was 65 in February.

Happy birthday Tmeadow2. I’m a Lancashire lass. Born in Liverpool but have lived near Wigan for 55 years. Abergele is a nice place to live, but you will get a warm Lancashire welcome when you move up here.
Enjoy your day as best you can xx
