Pillow suggestions for side sleeper

I wonder if you could suggest a pillow for a side sleeper which doesn't cost a lot of money. I have seen some as much as £140. Seen some on the shopping channels but some reviews are poor. Has anybody got suggestions, heat is not a problem but stopping neck pain is.

There is an advert on tv for a pillow that goes between your knees or thighs to take the strain. It costs I think £19.99. I also think I saw it advertised for sale in Asda.

I bought this on line and have been using it as my pillow for many months. It’s tiny and fits beautifully to support the neck and chin for a side sleeper. It can be pushed a little into shape if needed. I used to wake every morning with a headache and sore shoulder. No more. It has been a life saver. If I was going on holiday I’d take it with me.

Emma pillows. Like marmite love em or hate em. DH and I both sceptical but really happy with them.

Recommended highly by QVC and at a special price I purchased 2 GX suspension pillows medium soft. They have internal ties to plump up the pillow and they have to be turned daily. Rather disappointed have had better memory foam pillows in the past. Nobody else (I think) has mentioned these so wondered if anyGN have them and their views.

Hernia 9 -I bought two of these pillows - a medium firm and medium soft. Like you I’m very disappointed -my husband has added another pillow back with his medium firm and mine does not plump back up again despite religiously turning it. A lot of money wasted in my opinion.!

Have to agree with Joplin. The cruelty of ripping the feathers from a living bird is unforgivable. They bleed and scream with pain.

If you have a memory foam pillow they need a good thumping (bashing) daily otherwise go hard.

Joplin yes sadly. That's why I use synthetic 'Feels like down' if you like the pillow but not way it's made.

Bit late to the party here but I love this one:

Goose down pillows shouldn't really be encouraged as the poor geese suffer terribly. Their feathers are torn from them at regular intervals & they scream with pain. Try & avoid - such cruelty is unforgivable.

I've got an M&S Feels like down, just the right amount of support, but I like my head and neck to mould in. I like it so much I've recently replaced with same.

I have used a Mackenzie Original Neck roll for years, none on my third. The instructions are to insert it in the pillowcase of the pillow on the bed but I prefer to use it separately. It supports my neck during sleep and is long enough for me to be able to turn over without rolling off it.

Monko8 I love my dunlopillow wouldn’t be without it!

I use a bamboo pillow. As I have respiratory problems, I sometimes need to sit up in bed, sometimes on my side where I promptly slide down. The bamboo pillow is great for both scenarios. Quite firm, resets itself when I need to get up and no neck problems, whatsoever.

I’m a side sleeper, too. The best pillow I’ve ever had was from
Aldi!

Aepgirl Fri 28-Aug-20 12:46:20

Is a ‘side-sleeper’ somebody who sleeps on their side, or is it a sort of special pillow?

Theoddbird Fri 28-Aug-20 12:45:12

I bought a couple from Sainsbury's quite a while ago...under £20 if I remember rightly I am side sleeper and use one. Very comfortable even after a year or so.

Dunelm - they do two types of Comfort Zone pillows - one type for those who sleep on their back and another type for those who sleep on their side. I got 2 of the latter and they're brilliant. Not expensive either.

I spent a fortune on neck pillows, and I've found what works best for me is to roll up a thin towel into a sausage, put that on a normal feather pillow and put that under my neck. I also cuddle a cushion and have a pillow between my knees. Works for me! Recommended by my chiropractor.

Have you tried a boomerang pillow, i find them really nice to sleep sideways on

Anrol Fri 28-Aug-20 11:00:52

We are both side sleepers. We bought the firm Premier Inn pillows (and the fabulous Hypnos bed) in February (available via their website), and have found them to our liking. They were very firm for a week and now are just perfect. No neck aches, no sweating and plump up nicely.

A couple of months ago I bought John Cotton Memory Foam Pillow on Amazon. When it arrived I ordered a second one immediately, it's perfect as I was waking up with painful neck and shoulders (another side sleeper) and have been sleeping soundly with none of the original problems.

Previously I had a latex pillow but it was so hot in Summer and seemed to take a long time to absorb heat in Winter, it wasn't high enough either which is why I was getting pain in neck and shoulders.

I had been watching the listing for a couple of days as the price kept changing, but when it dropped, I swooped.

Sorry, can't recommend sellers in your area but I'm sure a google search will give you some info. They were also on eBay (Aus) although the price was higher than Amazon.

Hope this helps? ;-)

I've had neck problems for years, and used a shaped one with a high ridge at the front. But it could still feel like a stone on sleepless nights. I asked for the Knightsbridge Pillow from the London Pillow Company, for a birthday present. It's great because you don't notice it's there, non sweaty, and comes with two raisers that you can use or not according to your shoulder height. Not cheap, but worth it in my opinion.

I usually have a down pillow as I too have a neck issue.
I prefer the box sided ones that you can tuck your shoulder under.
I have tried the shaped ones and the ones with the indentations but I found that they, for some reason were smaller than a standard pillow so ended up moving the pillow around throughout the night.
Dunelm have a good range of pillows.
