I live in a part of Essex which is in tier 2. My weekly qigong class is in tier 1. I’m at a loss to know whether I can in fact attend bearing in mind the latest ‘rules’

No, unless it is for essential travel and an exercise class would not be in that category.
For areas in tier 2, the additional Covid restrictions mean: People are prohibited from socialising with anybody outside their household or support bubble in any indoor setting.
It wouldn't be fair on all those in the tier one area anyway.

I am in Tier 2 (Essex) and all indoor exercise classes / gyms are still open.

Does an exercise class count as socialising or is it sport (or even education?)

Rethinking, perhaps it is the travel into /out of Tier 2 which is significant?

Even in tier 3 the gyms are open and the classes are taking place. Well they are in Greater Manchester. Not sure about other areas.

Quick update - just heard the classes are cancelled. Not surprised really but a shame for the instructors.
