DGS says school trousers are uncomfortable.

One of my sons had very sensitive skin and just couldn't wear uniform. The school were very strict about it (although, of course, it's optional in primary school) so all the other children wore it.

He had soft cotton t-shirts and leggings with tracksuits instead. He wore trainers, not shoes. The headmaster wasn't happy about it - but there was nothing he could do!

She may have decided, having asked the same question on MN, nannafizz so tread warily!

I have this problem with DGS. Rather than inserting the elastic, I lay a length inside each side of the waistband, pull it taut, pin and then stitch. When released it gathers up the trousers at each side. I warn you, it’s quite hard work!

My DGS ( who is slim but not thin) always has trouble in finding school trousers and jeans that fit.They are either far too tight or much too large, but there are no elasticated waists for his age.At home he prefers to wear jogging trousers.

Cherrytree, M and S have boys' school trousers in regular, long and extra long lengths and a choice of leg fittings - eg slim and regular.

GS has same problem, even with with back elastic school trousers.

GS is very slim around his waist,
But has to go up a size due to long legs.

I have just purchased a magnetic elasticated belt. (Amazon)

Apparently trousers can be pulled up and down (PE, loo etc) without opening belt.

Only fly in the ointment,
GS's school trouser do not have belt loops.
My job tomorrow is to make belt loops.

Fingers crossed that problem will be solved.?

It’s a long time since I’ve heard S belts being called snake belts. I my brother wore them as a child but they were called snake belts then. The S was like a little serpent.

GS has this problem when he started school. An elastic S belt did the trick. Very easy to open and close. He though it was quite cool! They come in all sorts of colours.

Most school trousers have a half elastic at the back or maybe just let it go and he ll get used to it

Yes, I agree. The S belts are perfect for busy boys who don’t have time to be faffing about.

But what I would do would be to get some 1 inch wide elastic and run it through the waistband. A small slit in the waistband lining either side of the fly, run the elstic through and stitch it down firmly on the inside.

He might be comfy in them worn with a belt. But if he’s anything like my grandsons it would need to be a quick release one as they’re much too busy to go for a wee till they really need to go!

There are many mock fly elastic waist, school uniform 247,Matalan,Ebay, Asda to name a few or adjustable waist from John Lewis.

What about an elastic S-belt?

Could you put some wide elastic in the back of the waist band.
