AIBU I cannot believe this. The royal train costs a fortune. The only good this will do is bolster the RF. The number of folk in dire straits is unbelievable-how on earth will a visit from this pampered pair help I wonder?

Anniebach Wed 09-Dec-20 10:37:10

There is no more they can do about Andrew, he doesn’t carry out any royal duties.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 09-Dec-20 10:37:49

I usually respect your posts trisher but unfortunately not that one.

The grownups of the UK have responsibility for their health, if they choose to see family/go out it is their choice/responsibility and bugger all to do with William and Catherine.

timetogo2016 Wed 09-Dec-20 10:41:44

I agree with you Lemongrove.

Nadateturbe Wed 09-Dec-20 10:56:58

Grany I am opposed to the monarchy totally but I don't think it's right to call them dullards.
Some of them clearly aren't.
This trip may have encouraged people to behave less cautiously as did D.C.s trip and Michelle O'Neill's attending a huge funeral.
Parsley3 good post (imo).

Grany

Britain: How can we pay tribute to poorly paid workers who've risked their lives to keep us going during a pandemic?

Govt: How about getting super rich people to wave at them from a luxury train those workers paid for? Or burning £50 notes in front of themThinking face

Fellow rebs, let us hijack the #royaltraintour hashtag.

Calling at:

Scathing
Ridicule
Ideological Gap
Propaganda on Sea
Caste Entrenchment
before arriving at Abject Sychophancy.

#RoyalTrainTour

Presumably, this doesn't include security costs.

The cost per mile of royal train travel varies, but a 2017 trip by Prince Charles from London to Cwmbran cost £130.84 per mile. If the cost per mile for the Cambridge's COVID Tour was the same as Charles' 2017 trip, that would mean this Pandemic Express could cost £163,550. twitter.com/BBCNews/status…

None of them live outwith.

Prince of wales my arse
Duke of Edinburgh my arse

Love Wills 'CONCERNED FROWING FACE' that he does.
Hand gestures for bonus points.

A lot of royal schtick is based on premise that they listen & UNDERSTAND the country.

But all they ever do is spout bland platitudes that reinforce existing power structures..

On the #RoyalTrainTour - how big is the entourage of folk ?

It's not just #Kate & #RosesLOVERBOY swanning around - it's press, flunkeys, fawners and servants.

Have they all been tested?
Why are they breaking the law ?

8 carriages.

In tow is a large media / press pack.

They're not allowed on the train so have to drive.

William's commitment to environmentalism doesn't extend to giving the supine press pack a seat on his train.

Needless to say they don't complain.

Get off the fence Grany, tell us what you really feel grin gringringrin

Isn't it funny how many people think Cummings encouraged people to break lockdown, but think W&K will have no effect at all. Is it something to do with the feeling which surrounds the RF? is belief in the King's Evil still alive and well?

Lucca Wed 09-Dec-20 11:10:54

Good point Trisher

Lucca Wed 09-Dec-20 11:11:33

Still haven’t heard what is so wonderful about this whole family ......

Whitewavemark2 Wed 09-Dec-20 11:23:49

I think the trip is ill advised at this particular moment. People have too much to think about without those two turning up needing security, attention and time that can be ill afforded.

They need to stay in their box, until a more appropriate time when they can be wheeled out to “cheer up” the populace.

lemongrove Wed 09-Dec-20 11:29:47

.....And then get accused of not caring about the populace and only visiting in the good times.

25Avalon Wed 09-Dec-20 11:30:55

WWM2 take a look at the happy pictures out there of people who enjoyed seeing William and Kate. If we have to have a RF then at least they are doing something to brighten up people’s lives.

trisher Wed 09-Dec-20 11:57:55

Think how many people could be made happy if the money expended on this trip had been used to give a christmas meal and gift to all the children living in poverty in the UK and how many more smiles there would be.

Alegrias2 Wed 09-Dec-20 12:39:53

trisher ?

Nadateturbe Wed 09-Dec-20 12:42:14

trisher ?

ginny Wed 09-Dec-20 12:59:38

That certainly would make more sense to me trisher

Bridgeit Wed 09-Dec-20 13:11:39

Lucca, nothing in particular is wonderful about them, but for many folks of all generations Of this country it is the history & traditions that they still wish to uphold & to keep , & believe it or not it seems to make these folks feel good, also towns that are visited memorabilia that is purchased etc provide employment for others.
They don’t have unpaid servants !

Kamiso Wed 09-Dec-20 13:51:26

Seeing all the happy excited faces really brightened my day and sure did the same for a lot of others.

Do the dissenters think Catherine’s project to level the playing field for all under fives is a waste of time? Easy to ignore the fact that some children don’t know what a book is, a four year old sees a picture of a piglet and says that it’s a nice little doggie innit?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 09-Dec-20 14:16:38

It’s too easy to dismiss the unseen good work some of the Royals do in order to insult them all!

I think the 5th richest country in the world shouldn't have to rely on charity to ensure that all chldren are given a good start in life. If Sure start was still operating properly, if proper funding was available in the poorest areas, if this government hadn't cut spending in the poorest areas then the acheivement levels and the lives of the poorest would be much better. No one should have to rely on RF charity.

Callistemon Wed 09-Dec-20 15:52:41

No one should have to rely on RF charity.

I agree but unfortunately it happens, so the RF making these projects more high profile thus bringing them to the attention of those who can help, will help to fund them, can only be a good thing.

That is part of their role nowadays.

trisher Wed 09-Dec-20 15:57:08

Regardless of if you approve of the RF or not it is a sad day when children can only have a future through charity. I think those who can help (otherwise known as HM government) are well aware of the problem and just don't care.

And yet many people on GN who rubbish the RF seem to absolutely love Harry and Meghan....who make daft statements to the world and make mega bucks from Netflix.
Go figure.

Anniebach Wed 09-Dec-20 17:14:44

True, criticism of the royal family is acceptable but a thread criticising Meg and Harry brings criticism of the posters , such
as - ‘envious old crones’

trisher Wed 09-Dec-20 17:17:45

But no one on thisthread has made any disparagng remarks about W&K's character, their personal life, their relationship, their appearance or their motives. Unlike the H&M threads where character assassination is common.

Alegrias2 Wed 09-Dec-20 17:23:22

trisher ? again. You are on a roll today.
