I just think that if it wasn’t for royal families we wouldn’t have the castles, stately homes, churches and cathedrals that we can now visit, even though I’m pretty sure I would have been on the side of the Roundheads back in the day. However, when I was young and the BBC serialised The Children of the New Forest I had a crush on (I think) Humphrey because of his long hair. My head says I should be anti royals but I’m kind of fond of them. Can’t help it.

I entirely agree Anniebach, whereas I fully uphold the right of anyone to express an opinion, comments such as those say so much more about the writer than the subjects.

So childish to call the couple names which I doubt we would hear in the playground. A brain wobble needed perhaps.

I am not firmly in either the royalist or democrat camp, neither am I a grinch.
I was surprised that they travelled so far when we are being askedare to stay close to our own area.
I don’t personally understand why a royal visit would bring much comfort . Practical help is what is needed, not platitudes and smiles from people who have little idea of how the average person lives , let alone those who are struggling just to get through each day.

They are our Royal Family also like Wills and Kate and have nothing against them.
How much is it all costing? I am fed up seeing people living in cramped housing and also very poor people who live on the streets and so much poverty. I do not turn a blind eye when I see the homeless use the money and help them it is unfair.

Answer to MayBee70 . It was Holy Trinity First School, its in Bell Tower Place, near to the Station.
The children all had Christmas hats on and it was a very happy get together at lunch-time.

If anything should be titled "The Royal Train" it's the sum of the processions of frontline workers streaming into work each day - not the gilded conveyance transporting the Cambridges on their look-at-us, Grand Tour, lockdown-breaking version of clapping for carers.

The Pandemic Express is costing around- £164k plus security costs which every council has to fund at every stop.
Money that could be funding hungry children not a misjudged PR stunt.

What about the requirement to work from home? Couldn't they have done all this via Zoom?

A complete irrelevance. Why in the 21st Century we pay millions to this dyfunctional family is beyond belief.

We really enjoyed seeing the Royal Couple yesterday at Berwick. The children were really excited to see them. Organising the Reindeer was a great idea, it made it a very festive visit
We very rarely get Royalty visiting Berwick as we are half way between Edinburgh and Newcastle- so we tend to get Bypassed- however yesterday was a real surprise and Catherine and William were made very welcome.

We very rarely get Royalty visiting Berwick as we are half way between Edinburgh and Newcastle- so we tend to get Bypassed- however yesterday was a real surprise and Catherine and William were made very welcome.

It made a lot of sense to go to Berwick given that it’s a two platform station with very few arrivals and departures. Pre COVID I used to love having a coffee in The Maltings and watching the trains going over the viaduct. It was like sitting in the middle of a model train set. Which school did they go to?

People moan when they do nothing and they moan when they do something!! If I, or my family, saw them, we would remember forever that we saw the future King and Queen. I did meet Charles once many years ago but still remember it so clearly.

Re future monarchs 'we don't get a choice'.
More the pity as our present monarch will be a hard act to follow.
If morals are brought in then the two eldest of our monarchs sons leave a lot to be desired where morals are concerned and there will no doubt be many amongst us who would welcome the right to chose.

GG13 we are moving close to agreement! Its the concept of a monarchy that I disagree with, that in a modern society we have Heads of State purely because of who their parents were. Its got nothing to do with how much money they have, or how hard they work.

MayBee70 the Royal couple came to Edinburgh first. I only mentioned the Berwick school as I thought about the reindeer visit was such a lovely thought.

Totally agree Alegrias2 people forget that the immediate lineage have their lives mapped out from birth.

I wouldn’t want to be born Royal or marry into The Firm, but in my humble opinion the core working royals do a good job.

Her actual words were that the Royal Household had been made aware of the restrictions in place, and it was they who had decided on what action to take. She then asked the reporter to direct any further questions on the visit to the Royal Household.

Hardly the rabid denunciation of the monarchy that gets reported by the Express. I see that the exemplar of fair treatment, Kelvin Mackenzie, has jumped on the bandwagon too. He's having a go at the Welsh now - eugenics has been mentioned. Lovely.
