Decaf tea

I like earl grey tea, like the bergamot taste. I have withdrawal symptoms if I don’t have a couple of coffees in the morning !

We are big tea drinkers in our home, so in the evening I make decaf as the last one of the day. I've tried a few brands but have settled on Tesco's own brand as the favourite. It makes a lovely cuppa.

Midgey Have you tried Nescafe decaffeinated coffee? The coffee is decaff'd by using a filtration process rather than using chemicals.

Thanks Squiffy. Since we’ve been having Tesco deliveries we’ve had several substitutions and one of them has been Nescafé Gold Blend decaf, something I would never have bought. I switched to Kenco many years ago and have stuck with it ever since but I must admit to not missing the Kenco. If I travel anywhere I always have to stick to decaf tea or coffee (not that I travel anywhere these days!). It’s only when I have a cup of normal coffee late at night that I realise the effect caffeine has:I’ll still be trying to get to sleep at 3 in the morning. I do like Redbush tea but did think it tasted a bit antiseptic when I first tried it.

I drink Rooibos (Red bush) tea. It is naturally decaffeinated. I have it with a little milk. Since starting to drink this herbal tea, about five years ago, I've lost the taste for real tea of any sort. Red Bush is a delicious, refreshing drink. Sainsbury's own brand is reasonably priced and as good as any I have tried.

Another fan of Lidl decaff teabags here. I have tried Aldi ones, but they are a little weak. I was told that Earl Grey tea has lower caffeine levels than ordinary tea, but don't know if it's true.

Do you have a Morrison’s? We drink theirs and it’s lovely.

I use Lidl decaf tea and when visitors ask for tea I don’t mention it is decaf and have had many compliments on what a lovely cuppa I make.

For those who may have forgotten, in olden days friends and neighbours used to simply drop in to have a chat over a hot drink. We referred o them as visitors.

if you drink a lot of water at once you need to have a 'salt lick' after....that is a few grains of salt in palm of hand and lick it up... large glass of water in one go is not a good idea without the salt!

Plus one for TickTock rooibos here too; the only tea I can drink now apart from herbals.

I drink a lot of tea and coffee - because I really like the caffeine! It has no noticeable ill effects on me (?).

In normal times, I'll take my own favourites (Yorkshire tea) out with me, rather than suffer anything else.

Niobe I do that too if I'm visiting someone who has no decaff. I heard a long time ago that most of the caffeine can be eliminated that way.
Our "house tea" also is Rooibos ( Redbush). You can also get vanilla and Earl Grey redbush. Its better than decaff. Apparently mothers in South Africa used to give it to their babies for colic.

Hi, I’ve been as caffeine free as I can for the last 10 years on medical advice. It took a bit a of time to get used to + withdrawal symptoms!
I’ve never been much of a coffee drinker but Yorkshire Tea decaf works for me. Even DH who said he could never switch drinks it now?

I don't know if this is true but I was once told that tea contains very little caffeine when you compare it to coffee so the decaff type is hardly worth bothering with.
However, to please the nutritionist at my GPs I switch to decaff late afternoon so that my 8 cup a day 'habit' doesn't harm me. It hasn't killed me - yet.

I read that on mumsnet but since I take my tea black without sugar I use the teabag twice and console myself that the second cup has a lot less caffeine.

Like others here, I do recommend red bush/rooibus. It’s made from the bark of some kind of tree and has no caffeine. It has a soft-ish, slightly powdery taste reminiscent of Darjeeling tea, and you can add milk and/or sugar in the same way as you do to tea. Once you get accustomed to the fact that it doesn’t taste like your regular builders’ brew, it is really rather nice.

Second what Midgey said. Cut down slowly unlike DH who now gets a migraine if he has any caffeine at all.

Thats a bit drastic?.Noooo way will I throw away a good cup of tea. I have a large teapot used when there are more than myself having a cuppa.So use that with only one bag but larger amount of water.

I like PG Tips decaf, but then I’ve never had milk in my tea - it tastes vile to me with milk in - so I dare say that will make a huge difference.

Tick Tock is my go-to tea bag. They are in a distinctive square red box and are naturally caffeine-free, coming from the rooibos/redbush of South Africa. Delicious.

Clipper or Yorkshire are the only decaf brands I like.
Just recently I have been drinking warm water, boiled from a kettle, with a touch of lemon juice. It’s really quite good!

Redbush is our "House tea" it does not have caffeine in it. I feel sometime the chemicals to remove caffeine are worse than the caffeine!!
