What are you doing for International Women’s Day?

This normally would be linked to the Women’s World Day of Prayer and women would meet in churches or other places of worship. It was ecumenical and once, when I lived in Staffs., we celebrated at a local abbey with the nuns which was interesting.

See, I frittered about for the whole of 3rd March before remembering it was DS birthday ?

And then it was only because he sent a text saying thank you for card.

Just not a special day person.

I've never known anyone who is British ever doing anything for IWD.
A Polish friend who I worked with in a school celebrates it. Her daughters would give each of the female staff a rose. It was very sweet.

In Scotland, there is a celebration at our Parliament every year, usually the nearest Sat to 8 March. Women citizens from all walks of life gather in the chamber, listen to guest speakers, Q&A session then a celebration in the Garden Room. There have been girls choirs to entertain us in the past.

Could I point out to all of you who are saying there is no need for IWD the International in the name. There are countries where women are still subjected to violence, raped, discriminated against and mistreated by men and the authorities. International Women's Day is a chance to show we stand with them and with all who are persecuted. It's not just the UK.

Other IWDs I have met up with friends and been part of marches and choirs, singing about period poverty and the song from the 2018 Women's march on Washington. This IWD I've a number of on-line opportunities including yoga and meditation. And I'm doing a pop up choir on Zoom

There are usually some get togethers and events on here, but Covid has stopped that. The ROH has some interesting sounding online activities and I am hoping to join in with some of those.

Will be working in the supermarket as usual.

Coincidentally it is always my birthday!!! And very occasionally Mothers' Day to boot.

I suspect that most of the British public have no interest in either IWD or a mensday.

I have no idea what date IWD is, nor do I care tbh.I have never needed a day to celebrate either my own or anyone else’s achievements/ideals/needs.

I’m usually seeing friends. In the past, we would be part of celebrations in the town centre. Often dressed as suffragettes. Given our current lockdown, I may slightly breach guidance and meet two, rather than one friend to walk and discuss IWD
