I've just done mine online - I really don't remember the last one, presumably 10 years' ago.

moggie57 Mon 08-Mar-21 21:58:37

kissngate Mon 08-Mar-21 18:51:31

Not had one. Living in rental about to vacate presume the Landlord got sent one for this house.

Ijustwantpeace2020 Mon 08-Mar-21 18:44:38

We did ours online. Very quick to complete.

Jo1960 Mon 08-Mar-21 18:26:29

I haven't got any notification yet but won't be completing it until the 21st, after all I could be hit by a number 2 bus between now and then. Also the question on sex/gender is being challenged as it is ambiguous at best.

I am in a stroppy mood, guess I will answer my own question, and we HAVE to fill it in? do we?

grrr! when was the first census? back when the Roman hordes invaded us.. who is invading us now..

told you I am in a stroppy mood!

Aepgirl Mon 08-Mar-21 16:56:28

I’m waiting for 21st March to do mine.

lizzypopbottle Mon 08-Mar-21 16:43:11

I'll complete it if and when I receive it!

Juicylucy Mon 08-Mar-21 16:04:14

Not received mine yet but my friends have and it states it’s to be done on 21st March so not sure why people are doing it before.

Grandma70s Mon 08-Mar-21 16:00:14

There’s a number to ring if you want a paper form.

The website says:

You can complete your census as soon as you receive your letter ...

The census will never be 100% accurate in any respect. It never has been and never will be. The aim is to obtain a reasonable measure of the overall population numbers and the population make up so that the government can plan for future housing, education, healthcare, religious needs, taxation etc. The UK has a population of roughly 65 million people. It matters very little if a person is under one roof or another on census night or dies between now and then. The latter might perplex a family historian in a hundred year's time but that’s all.

Nanette1955 Mon 08-Mar-21 15:54:29

No as they prefer everyone to fill it in on the same day, 21st March this year, so it can be as accurate as possible, unfortunately things happen in between that could skew the results. X

GreyKnitter Mon 08-Mar-21 15:51:27

We will do ours in 21st March which is census day. I’m a keen family history researcher and can’t wait for the 1921 info to become available. The information is very usual for planning purposes and invaluable for family history folks in providing info about families and locations.
I remember my mum delivering and collecting the census forms when I was a child. I’m guessing there must be some kind of paper form for those without computers - not many I guess m

Karalou51 Mon 08-Mar-21 15:46:48

It tells you on the front page, in bold print to fill it in on, or as soon after the 21st March, as possible. Yes, I've filled in the basics that I know 100% will be the same, like my dob and nationality but the whole point is to know who's where on a particular date. I wonder if they're sent back to you if you do it too early? Still think it's very 'Big Brother' though....

GreenGran78 Mon 08-Mar-21 15:23:41

Lizbethann55. You never know when circumstances will change, so it should be filled in on the 21st, regardless of Covid rules.
My DD and GD have unexpectedly had to move in with me, due to a hiccup in their house move. They will probably still be here on census day, but we don’t know yet. Although they were both in my ‘bubble’ anyway the rules would have permitted us to share accommodation.
Also, if the form was filled in early, then someone died before the due date, I’m sure that the bereaved wouldn’t even think about notifying the census people of the alteration.
Why do people think that it’s ok to change the rules to suit themselves?

Daisend1 Mon 08-Mar-21 15:17:31

Chestnut
My form was 'done and dusted' within an hour of receiving it. Can't abide with anything that needs 'filling in' and the
sooner it's ticked off my list of, 'must do by,' the better.
Unfortunate if circumstances change overnight but who wants to go through life thinking 'what if'.

ONS stats show there were 27.8 million households in the UK in 2019, say 28 million now. People are being encouraged to complete the census online. If only half of the total number of households, say 14 million people, tried to complete the online form on the same day, I'd hazard a guess that the census server would crash. Therefore, it makes sense for people who believe their circumstances are unlikely to change, to complete the form a little earlier.

census.gov.uk/help/getting-started ... states:

Census Day is Sunday 21 March 2021.

^You can complete your census as soon as you receive your letter, but make sure you answer about your household as you expect it to be on Census Day. If you complete your census early, and something changes, you can let us know.^

Then you will have more to worry about than your census and wouldn't be able to fill it in anyway.

Corkie91 Mon 08-Mar-21 14:54:23

Thought it had to be done on a specific date the 21 March

Chardy. Obviously. But you still aren't supposed to fill it in until 21st. Say DH or I die before then or are in hospital? Or my DD has some catastrophic event and we have to take in our DGC ( in our bubble) or I get arrested and am in custody?

greenlady102 Mon 08-Mar-21 14:40:37

if they don't want it filled in early then why make it possible?

greenlady102 Mon 08-Mar-21 14:39:00

Chardy

Lizbethann55 you're not allowed anyone to stay at your house. You can fill them in now if you want to.

yes you are if you are bubbled with them
