Any advice for removing burnt on marmalade from stainless steel - can’t use abrasives.

Pantglas2 Sat 20-Mar-21 13:02:43

Fill with boiling water and it should soften, if not, boil up and scrape away with wooden spoon worked for me.

You're really not having much luck today are you Espana? smile
A soak in washing powder is what I would do
Has your marmalade set now?

Espana Sat 20-Mar-21 13:08:15

Thank you Pantglas and Fanny. Will try both. Marmalade well and truly set now. Could spit - hope it doesn’t ruin my expensive jam pan.

Leave a dishwasher tablet to soak in it after filling with water?

I scrub mine out with a plain wire wool pad to get any residue off after soaking

Thank you B9 . Will give it a try.

If the other things don't work pour in very cheap cola and leave overnight.

Sometimes vinegar and bicarb (baking soda) does the trick, but it usually works best if you haven't already used detergent. Worth a try ......

Thank you Nell and exD will give them a go.

Espana

Pour enough water into the bottom of the pan to just cover the burnt area.
Add one cup of vinegar.
Bring to the boil and remove from the heat.
Add 2 tablespoons bicarb or baking powder and stir. It should start to fizz.
Leave until cool and hopefully the burnt bits should lift off.
Empty pan, rinse and finish off with a brillo pad if necessary. (Other soap filled pads are available.)

Good luck! Worked for me a few years ago.

Sorry, crossed posts ExD. ?

annodomini Sat 20-Mar-21 13:32:38

I second B9exchange's solution. My pressure cooker with burnt-on soup was left overnight with a dishwasher tablet dissolved in it and emerged with its stainless steel interior just as good as new.

Thank you nanalynn and annodomini. ?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 20-Mar-21 14:04:41

Your marmalade has been giving you a lot of grief??

Espana Sat 20-Mar-21 14:12:47

If it’s not children it’s blooming marmalade!

Baggs Sat 20-Mar-21 14:13:52

Try a general sprinkling of soda crystals with a generous squirt of good quality washing-up liquid then pour a kettleful (or two) of boiling water in it. Let it soak till the water is cold.

You might have to repeat the process.

Baggs Sat 20-Mar-21 14:14:24

*generous, not general.

Espana Sat 20-Mar-21 15:02:23

Thanks Baggs, I’m going with Nannalyn’s suggestion at the moment but will try yours if not successful. Would have to wait anyway to buy the soda crystals. ? that’s praying hands but it looks much ruder to me. I do have man degenerate though!

Espana Sat 20-Mar-21 16:23:59

Nannalynn many thanks for your advice. Have had to do it 4 times but it has worked like a dream! Expensive pan saved.
Many many thanks to all who gave advice. It was most appreciated.

Espana Sat 20-Mar-21 16:25:54

Man degenerate was intended to be Mac degeneration.! This predictive text is a menace.

NannaLyn Sat 20-Mar-21 17:42:40

Glad it worked alright Espana. ?

Hope the marmalade turned out ok in the end. ?
