I know somebody who received his first state pension this month and the money went automatically into his bank account. He just wondered when it would arrive in his bank account and I said usually sometime this month.

Mine arrived on time this month.

I’ve been chasing mine this week Nana56 as it’s due early next month (in arrears so expecting payment early January) and I’ve not had letter with amount or dates payable!

I received invitation to apply letter early August and completed form on line which they acknowledged receipt of end August.

A friend who will be 66 end of January has had her confirmation amounts/dates already so I thought it best to ring.

Got through promptly at 8.30 today (try when lines first open as they’re busy) and they have taken all my details and expedited things so I’m expecting a letter soon.

I’ll ring again in two weeks if nothing happens!

Good luck and keep persevering...?

What happened to the state pension and benefit thread. It was permanently at the top rather sensibly but seems to have disappeared?

Received letter end of September inviting me to claim online, had a unique number.(turned 66 very end of Oct.)

Logged onto my Gov.Gateway account and ticked few boxes.

7th Oct received a txt saying " your claim for pension has been submitted and you will here as soon as your claim has been processed"

Last week around the 7th Nov letter came stating the date/the amount .

This week 15th money was in the bank.(not full month but almost)

Letter also said when next payment would be in and how much.

Everyone due the state pension should receive a letter 3 months before their pension date asking you to fill a form in online. For example if your birthday is 1 June a letter would be sent out on 1 March. However do they know your current address. Have you moved house in the last 50 years (since you left school started work and received NI number!!). Does the Tax office know your correct address? Its a bit like Premium Bonds if they don't know where you are Ernie will never come knocking.

Once you've filled in the easy short online form you have to wait quite a while before you hear from them again. My friend only got told a week or so before pension due what he was entitled to. She did get a follow up phone call around the same time. Pensions are paid in arrears. If your birthday is say 15th of month, you will get two weeks payments on the 29th and a full payment four weeks later.

My advice is if you haven't received your letter two months before your pension is due PHONE and have your NI number with you when you do.

I applied online in June as my birthday was at the end of September but I was surprised not to be told even in a text when it was due. I know it’s paid a month in arrears but didn’t know that the date in the month it’s paid is variable. Then I checked my account online and found a 2 week payment in mid October and have just received the first full monthly payment.

Maybe I'm being over anxious. I'm 66 in February?

bikergran Wed 17-Nov-21 09:35:35

glam don't blow it all at once lol.

My husband was 66 in the middle of October and his money was in his bank account exactly one month later.

I think applying online through the Government Gateway is usually quicker than phoning or writing.

It’s random when and if they let you know. A friend of mine who has never worked was told well in advance how much she was getting and when.
I had to wait until a few days before it was due, despite numerous phone calls and 45 years of NI paid!

Hi kissingate
Thanks for your reply. Yes have checked all the details are correct. Have tried to apply on line but the website won't verify me.
Today on government gateway. That's fine for how much I'll get but can't apply there.
DPWP say should have had a letter. I know that !!.
Second phone call , unable to tell me when last form sent.
Now wait up to 10 days to see if lucky this time.

I had my letter in July and applied online. Rang 3 weeks after my birthday in September. They could see my application and it got dealt with so I got my pension in my own right very soon after. However I may be entitled to some based on DH’s contributions as he died in 2017 before pension age. That has been referred to the Widow’s department but may take some time to resolve as the situation is complicated in the current pension regime.
Hope your letter comes soon Nana56

Nana56 - as your bday is February you are a little bit early. If your birthday is for example 28 Feb then a letter would only be generated on the 28 November so it may yet arrive depending which day in Feb it falls. That gives you the code to input on line to verify your details and add a bank account for payments. They only tell you by letter about 5-7 days before its due of payment details. However if they have a phone number they sometimes ring to confirm it's going to be paid. I wouldn't worry as long as they have your correct address and NI number.

You can claim online up to 4 months in advance of when it’s due. I got a text back within an hour, a letter within 3 days, and the payment went in on the right date.

They were super efficient.

But, a friend, whom did the same as me, same birthday, had to wait 3 months, after the date she should have been paid, for her payment, and a lot of people are having the same problem. Some problem with the system.

The online claim form was very simple and didn’t take long to do. Saves waiting for a form. ?

Thanks. Can't claim on line as system won't verify me. Don't have a letter with an invitation number

Nana56 Tue 23-Nov-21 14:35:56

So all you wonderful gransnetters please can I ask for further advice
Two phone calls, still no application form.
According to on line help I think that the post office can't verify me ad I have used my credit card for ages and dk gave no credit history to check my address with.
No forms to apply with, checked on government gateway and can see amount I will get but directs me to apply on line and obviously can't.
Birthday in Feb, am I just being too impatient.
Value your words if wisdom.
Thanks in advance

This page seems to allow you to download the form to your own printer, fill it in by hand, and post it back to them.

PS. Keep scrolling down the form/page, on the link, past the notes and instructions, as the actual claim form is at the bottom. ?

Nana56 Wed 24-Nov-21 08:43:22

Thanks for the help. Thought that form was only if you were born before 1953??

Elusivebutterfly Wed 24-Nov-21 09:09:09

I applied online and never heard anything back but my State Pension was paid into my bank at the correct time, despite no letter informing me.
