Has anyone tried a Revitive machine?

Hi there, I get a lot of night cramps and also pain in my right hip, my right calf and my right foot. In the last 3 years I have broken a bone in my ankle and also sprained it, which is why I think I am getting a lot of pain in my foot. I am 72yrs old and I go to Pilates twice a week and Aqua classes 3 times a week and I am beginning to struggle with the aches and pains when doing these classes. However having seen the TV adverts for the Revitive machines with Ruth and Eamonn Holmes I wondered how good they really were. Has anybody got one, or used one and would you recommend getting one? Many thanks ?

I couldn't sleep due to hip pain. GP ordered an xray and was shocked to see the level of changes in my hips due to osteoarthritis. I didn't have a clue it was that. I'd definitely suggest seeing your GP first. They might well have heard from other patients about these machines.

sodapop Direne3 I heartily agree. I change the channel or switch off if he appears on screen.

I got one years ago when they first came out. My doctor was doubtful but he believes as long as something does no actual harm it might do some good if the patient believes it will. It did nothing for me so I passed it on. Now they seem to have resurfaced again so perhaps they're 'new and improved'.

My husband and I treated ourselves to one of these Revitive machines last Christmas.
I tried it for a couple of months but didn’t notice any difference
to my aches and pains. I mentioned the machine to my chiropractor who didn’t seem to rate them at all.
However my husband who has walking problems and gets leg cramps in bed at night swears by it and says he notices the difference if he hasn’t used it.
So mixed reviews from me.

Earlier comment on drinking more water to alleviate night cramps works for me. I used to be howling and hopping around the bedroom most nights with excruciating cramp in my legs. Definitely solved the problem save for the odd twinge when my fluid intake has been low during the day. Yes, you may pee more but far better than the absolute agony and after ache of cramp.

I’ve had a Tens device for quite a while. I use it for bad shoulder or ankle pain. I looked up Retitive machines and found this. Repetitive Tens machine.
Is it a remarketing of an old idea?

I only read the first 6 of so responses and agree that you should first talk to your GP about whether vibration technology is appropriate for you.

Then, if the GP says yes, for the money, the Revitive is so overpriced it's ridiculous. I have 3 (why? I don't know) vibration plate machines and they're soo much cheaper and are suitable for the whole body, not just the feet and calves.
With the Revitive, one MUST sit on a chair and just place their feet on the machine, it CANNOT take the weight of anyone standing on it.
A vibration plate (previously known as a wobble board) can be used in the same way as the Revitive but you can algal stand, sit or lean on it. Each board will take a different weight load, one of mine takes up to 150kg (approx 24stone) and they're an awful lot cheaper than that rubbish thing the Holmes couple advertise. Remember, they got paid for that ad.

Celebrity endorsement? Tends to put me off.

I was wondering about one of these or similar for my mum but in the small print it said not for use by someone with a pacemaker. Glad I spotted that!

After reading that vibration plates had been built into the space stations, for the spacemen to exercise on - it doesn’t take up any extra space - and my local football club bought a couple for footballers to train on, I paid a local gym about £3.00 for a 10 minute try out. Bought one that I can stand on, which has handles , so you always have something to grip onto, if you think you’re going to fall. Programmes 1-10, so you can control speed etc. my 81 year old friend has had one for 10 years, suffers from restless syndrome, 3 minutes on her machine (often at 3am ) means that she can sleep all night. If I suffer from back/ leg pain, I put on highest setting and and ‘lean’ until I feel the vibrations hit the pain . Put ‘vibration plate’ into a search engine and look at all the information. Daily Mail 30/11 had a half page spread on them

I had sciatica a few years ago and saw an osteopath and did exercises for a while, but Pilates sorted it for me! Good luck whatever you decide.

I have leg cramps and swollen ankles. I have severe knee arthritis. I bought a cubii machine from Argos and it’s really helping. Daily dose of magnesium has solved cramps too.

Mrsdof, I get similar symptoms when my back plays up (disk problems) and use a Tens machine - that really helps. They are not expensive. Have you been referred for an MRI scan?

Dillyduck Sun 05-Dec-21 23:24:15

After my second knee replacement I leant on the drain and it came out. My knee ballooned. I used a Circulation Booster, same basics as a Revitive machine. Worth every penny. Quickly chased away the swelling.

I have a revitive machine and used to use it for restless legs but since I've given up bread those symptoms are much reduced..I might use the machine if I haven't been out for a walk but TBH I hardly use it at all now.. maybe when I'm much older.. it is quite a pleasant sensation

I bought DD2 one from QVC so she had 60 days to test it or I could return it for a full refund of the purchase price.
She wanted to keep it and has it on under her desk when she WFH.

Would be nice if Mrsdof is still around, for her to come back and say what she did, and if she got a diagnosis?
I have been diagnosed with something recently, with some of the same pains.
Result - going to have many physio appointments which should help to cure it.

I bought the revitive medic four weeks ago. It works very well to stimulate my leg muscles which is needed to pump blood back uphill, so it does not stagnate in veins. There is a significant reduction in venous eczema and no more lower leg itchiness. I also started an emollient regime

I did know what to do as soon as I suspected I was in danger of skin breakdown through venous stasis and I ordered the revitive that day. I would not ever be without it. I use it in a small cosy warm room and read a book, while it works. It needs a bit of moisturiser on the soles of the feet, to provide good contact with the foot plate

DH is on blood thinners for a blood clot. Would he be able to use one?

Madgran77 Thu 07-Dec-23 18:16:52

I have the one advertised for helping osteoarthritic knees as well as circulation. It's worked wonders on my painful knees

62Granny Thu 07-Dec-23 18:18:20

My husband uses one , It was recommended to him by the Neurological trainer who he goes to because of his stroke he finds helpful but he isn't as mobile as you seem to be. I am not sure they are quite as good as they make out on the advert, but every little thing helps. He has been using it for 4 years. I would speak to your GP first though as there are some conditions they not recommend for.

Shandy57

My aunt asked me to research this as she has 'restless legs', at £300 I wasn't prepared to risk her not liking it.

How lovely to see you Shandy. I often think of you and wonder how you are. I miss your interesting posts on House and Home. All the best. smile
