My marriage certificate together with firm with my bank details on has gone missing.
My question is this enough for I d fraud.
I'm hoping that with those bank details you can only put money in.

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 16:47:55

Tes, I think it is.
Not that I'm any finance expert, but I was shocked at how people can use very little ti start up a respectable looking paper trail.

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 16:48:32

Yes! Not Tes!!! angry

Gone missing from where ?
You need some kind of password to get into a bank account but you don’t say what details were on the form
I d ring the bank and warn them as to what information you have lost and let them to advise you what needs doing

Doodledog Thu 23-Dec-21 16:49:06

Can you ring your bank and ask them to put a note on your account that your marriage certificate should not be used as ID, or that they should call you before any unusual transactions until you find the documents?

Have they gone missing from your home Nana56 or did you send them off somewhere?

MerylStreep Thu 23-Dec-21 16:51:42

With just an account No and sort code the chances are small. But it’s the other information together with those that could cause a problem.
More worrying is: how have they gone missing.

The is why I was so worried when my passport went missing when being delivered to me by TNT. Ditto my old passport which I’d had to send to the passport office. Some people have to send all sorts of documents to get a passport and there have been several news items both in the newspapers and on tv (One Show Watchdog) highlighting how many have gone missing in transit. I did get mine eventually but it was a worrying several weeks.

MissAdventure Thu 23-Dec-21 17:07:43

My grandsons first ever passport was delivered to the wrong flat, and had been there for over a week, all opened.
The passport office were very blase about it, considering the sheer amount of documents that had been enclosed in the envelope with it.

If you check out Trustpilot tnt passport it’s full of horror stories about peoples passports and documents going missing, plus people that have taken days off work but the passports weren’t delivered on the days stated. And people not being able to go on booked holidays. It’s a disgrace.

MayBee70 Thu 23-Dec-21 17:23:38

…and yet I can order a pastie from Cornwall and get it delivered the next day!

Sent to DWP for my pension.

GagaJo Thu 23-Dec-21 18:10:08

Student loans lost my daughter's original birth certificate and also my divorce cert. I had to demand that they pay replacement costs.

Blossoming Thu 23-Dec-21 19:01:59

Do you know if DWP received it Nana56? Did you send it tracked?

Calendargirl Thu 23-Dec-21 19:08:59

Anyone you have ever given a cheque to will have the name of your account, plus your sort code and account number.

Grannynannywanny Thu 23-Dec-21 19:19:06

Nana56 the documents may still be found. A few years back I sent official documents including bank statements to DWP as requested. Weeks later they contacted me and said they were still waiting for the requested documents. Then they declared they had been lost.

They eventually found them and returned them to me after they’d processed them. I know of 2 other people who had a similar experience with DWP and their documents were returned to them after being told they’d been lost. I’d swear they must have a dept somewhere full of unopened mail and incorrectly filed documents waiting to be found.

It’s a horrible feeling, though, not knowing where your important documents are.

I was very upset when a credit card company lost my passport, they were so very vague about it. It was quite an old one and had all the holidays I'd enjoyed with my late husband.

I got all my paper work in order during the first lockdown, I'd meant to do it for years.

MayBee70 Thu 23-Dec-21 23:29:26

My old passport wasn’t returned till several weeks after my new one. I was quite upset about it for sentimental reasons.

Nana56 Fri 24-Dec-21 09:56:05

Thank you all for the advice. I have been to the bank and put an alert on the accounts. They didn't seem too worried. I'm hoping the paperwork will turn up

If ever you’re really worried about something like that you can always get a police crime number so you’ve got something legal to fall back on if something goes wrong. You do have to go to a police station with I’d though as it can’t be done over the phone. A lot of people whose passports went missing did that.
