I may not be popular for saying this but I think No

Yes he has made a mistake a big one too

But does that cancel out all of the good that he has done and all the hard work he has also done to get us out of this pandemic

Over to you..

No
I am not and never was enamoured of BJ as a PM. But if he is pushed out we as a country are giving in to mob rule channelled through MSM, and an end to democracy.
The loudest will be the ones who dictate from then on.
We have seen how gullible much of society is in believing what msm tells them to without question.

Johnson is accountable to the electorate. At what point does the dissatisfaction with his reign as PM by the electorate become "mob rule"?

Some of his own ministers want him to resign - are they also part of the mob?

The MSM is, largely, right wing, and the the current party headed by Johnson has been happy enough for it to drum up its anti-EU, anti-Remain, anti-left wing rhetoric. It also hounded out Corbyn with reams and reams of vilification of the man (and no, I am not a Corbyn fan) - did any of that bother you?

The same media are now turning against him because of the sleaze and the current revelations about the various parties - because of the way he has handled these controversies he is bringing the Tory party into disrepute.

You cannot use an organ - a mouthpiece, the media, call it whatever - when it suits, and then attempt to silence it when it doesn't. You cannot encourage the crowd, the electorate, the voter on one hand, and then call it a 'mob' when it doesn't support you.

If Boris Johnson is hoist by his own petard that is tough - it is the way it works in this country, rightly or wrongly, and a huge section of the population appear to be happy enough to keep it this way, so both he - and you - will have to accept the consequences of our political system, such as it is.

... and if you read a wide selection of the media - including the foreign press - you will realise that there is a lot of sober-thinking and reporting about both Johnson and his government, without glaring and dramatic headlines, by reporters and columnists who try to take a more balanced and pragmatic view of both him and his party.

One thing that we can be pretty certain of is that if Sunak gets the premiership, we will be looking at a very different U.K.

Whilst he has not yet had the opportunity to lay out his stall, we do know that he is an admirer of the type of free market economy in Singapore.

So a shrinking state and focus on individual self help. The implication of this of course is further cuts to the welfare state which would include cuts to provide assistance to disabled and elderly, and National Health Service. We know that he was “in talks” with health providers in the USA just before Christmas.

Frankly if I had a choice Truss would be the better option for our beleaguered country.

The UK has been becoming less democratic for some time.

Had he been a woman he'd have been ousted out long before now. Look how Thatcher and May were treated !!

Yes, yes and yes again! What 'good' has he done? What more would he have to do for people to stop supporting him - slaughter babies in the street outside 10 Downing Street?

I think he'd have to eat them as well...

rosie1959 He is limiting his contact to protect the vulnerable, you say.
He is hoping to hoodwink the gullible, I say.

Maybe so but just pointing out if he has had close contact he is actually following the guidance
I dont know whether he has or hasn’t

You ask what good has he done.. He has had to run the country in the middle of a pandemic, if you think that is an easy job you are mistaken

He hasn't "run" anything! You may have not noticed the army of staff civil servants and lackies at his beck and call. Advisors tell him what to do and most of his own decisions have been catastrophic failure events. Naïve to think PMs control anything, they're a figurehead for the party in power, usually the most enamoured to the public otherwise the party would not get in. The PM is often the least effective member of the government at any given time. Look at Blair/Cameron/Thatcher/Churchill.all in the hotseat for specific tasks then unceremoniously dumped when the going got extremely hot! Bar Churchill it's usually due to damning autocratic decisions proving their lack of mettle. Aka they start to believe their own publicity and get Napoleon syndrome.......

he should be in work today the lazy arsed shit

this is the guidance

6. If you live in the same household as someone with COVID-19
Follow separate guidance if you have had contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 but do not currently live in the same household as them.

Anyone who has any of the main symptoms of COVID-19 should stay at home, self-isolate immediately and order a PCR test unless they have already taken an LFD test and the result was positive.

If you do not have symptoms of COVID-19 and live in the same household as someone with COVID-19, you are legally required to self-isolate unless you meet any of the following conditions:

you are fully vaccinated – fully vaccinated means you have had 2 doses of an approved vaccine such as Pfizer BioNTech, AstraZeneca or Spikevax (formerly Moderna); you are also fully vaccinated if you have had one dose of the single-dose Janssen vaccine
you are aged under 18 years
you have taken part in or are currently part of an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial
you are not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons
If you meet any of these 4 conditions (and are therefore not legally required to self-isolate), follow the guidance further down for contacts who are not legally required to self-isolate.

HDE SHOULD RESIGN OR BE SACKED

He is still not following the guidance then.
Come on Prime Minister, show your dwindling supporters that you are not really in hiding. All you need to do is crack a joke and waffle. It will be fine.

As I pointed out on another thread although you do not legally have to isolate you are advised to limit your contact especially to anyone who may be vulnerable

* no parties took place

Curlywhirly Sat 15-Jan-22 09:43:11

It's the bare-faced lies since news of the parties broke that rankles - "no rules were broken" "no parties too place". What has happened to breaking the Ministerial Code and his misleading Parliament?

Dickens Sat 15-Jan-22 09:12:37

Whether he should or will is almost beside the point.

The Tories will want to keep him on until they've decided who will lead the party in the next GE. Until then he's a useful fall guy, still liked by many, so they'll hang on to him and both they and he will try to turn things round to reinstate his popularity. Expect a lot of urging from the Party to "move on" from the current shambles of 'partygate'.

My bet is on Truss, she's malleable and will adjust her position for a sniff of power. She will be set up to ultimately fail, like May and Johnson, and even Thatcher. All were popular with the masses, until they weren't. The electorate can be quite fickle when they 'lend' their vote, as I believe many did to the Tories under Johnson.

That's the problem with being 'popular'... it doesn't last. Johnson doesn't appear to have understood this. His apparent contempt for the Monarchy and the people - instituting rules which he and his party chose to ignore has upset a lot of people. Some of course will easily forgive him, others won't.

That image of the Queen sitting alone on the day of Philip's funeral has hit a nerve - even with anti-Monarchists like me. An old lady, unable to have the comfort of close family around her at a time when she most needed them, obeying the rules that her government imposed whilst they partied is a poignant reminder to many others of the deprivation they also suffered, and I don't think Johnson's blunt apology cut it for a lot of people.

For me, it's not so much the parties, it's the stance taken since the revelation. The arrogant assumption that we should all just 'move on', the apparent lack of genuine remorse from the leader of a party which is, supposedly, dedicated to the service of Queen and Country, to me rings of contempt.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 15-Jan-22 07:48:05

Yes, he should go. This weekend, when lots of MPs are back in their constituencies, it may well be that those MPs will learn just how much Johnson is disliked. Next week will be interesting.

Casdon Sat 15-Jan-22 07:45:57

If you think what he did, on numerous occasions, was forgivable Msida it’s your own house you should be throwing stones at now. The whole country is up in arms about his behaviour you know, not just a few Gransnetters.

Msida Sat 15-Jan-22 07:35:59

It's so very true that no matter how mu h good you do it will always be the mistakes you make that people will remember

And for those that feel he has done nothing.. How do you think you would have done trying to get everything right when trying to run the country whilst dealing with a Worldwide Pandemic

Msida Sat 15-Jan-22 07:33:14

Alot of harsh commen

He did not do anything with malice intervention

He told people to lockdown and tgat was still the right thing to have done

He who is without ever making a mistake may throw the first stone

Patsy70 Thu 13-Jan-22 19:13:26

All very interesting! Not many Tory voters out there? ?

Yes! Once a liar always a liar. He has been the same time and time again and lost many jobs through it No morals, no integrity.

As I put on another thread…

Quote from Michael Rosen on Twitter -

‘It’s my party, I’ll lie if I want to’, ??

62Granny Thu 13-Jan-22 14:40:16

I am with Gagajo, What Good!
The man has lied continually the whole time he has been PM, and to be honest he was a liar and a cheat long before that.I
He thinks he can bluff and bluster his way out of everything.
