I bought my son a day with a falconer for his 40th.

MerylStreep

I think that is very generous considering your on a state pension.

I'm revisiting my expectations of what an appropriate amount should be.

I don’t think some posters realise how little a state pension is and how far you have to make it stretch.

A night or two glamping or in a Shepherds Hut. Look on Air bnb.

I would ask his partner. Most likely the best thing will be something they can do together.

I bought my son a Kindle for his 40th - handy for the train as he commutes to London frequently.
My DD will be 40 next year; I am thinking of getting her a voucher for our local excellent independent jewellers, so she can pick something to her taste.

It was here - but now says no window requests.

I did a shard trip with a meal. I was advised to tell them to ask for a window seat in the restaurant. They had a lovely time

There are some really good ideas here, thank you everyone!

A trip to the top of the Shard is a good 40th pressie. I think it's £50 per ticket, so he could take his wife/partner or a friend if he's single and then they could spend the rest on a lovely meal there too.

I used to buy (before Covid) my SiL vouchers for a wonderful gastro pub/hotel just outside Ambleside in the Lake District - always appreciated. He’s quite difficult to buy for.

What about a days bushcraft or foraging course?
There are some really good ones across the UK.

I am also looking at an experience for my AC, there's one at a place in Sheffield area, four different activities all in one and less than £50! There's a zip line, a parachute drop, sky dive and something else......can't remember but its right up my AC street. I will try to find the link and post it.

Hotel or restaurant vouchers? Then he & his partner can choose when & where! I bought aHotel du Vin one for my DD & offered to be on child duty when they were away!

mumofmadboys Sun 03-Apr-22 16:49:07

Has he got a partner? I agree hotel voucher would be good. Or suggest a couple of possibles but give him the cash to choose

I thingy you are in a stingy mood Call ?

I'm hoping a DC who just had a birthday isn't reading this ?

ElaineI Sun 03-Apr-22 16:33:45

Weekend away somewhere trekking in hills? Lake District, Highlands or somewhere else. Don't know where you live though so might be too far.
Or overnight stay somewhere with country walks and a nice meal?

yogitree Sun 03-Apr-22 16:29:37

Haha. So what would you suggest then? It doesn't have to be £200, but you did ask wink

Callistemon21 Sun 03-Apr-22 16:21:35

That sounds a very generous amount if you live on a state pension and he has everything he needs.

Or is it me?
I'm feeling a bit stingy now.

yogitree Sun 03-Apr-22 15:54:12

Louisa1523, Up to about £200 maybe. He is also graduating and has worked so hard and long to get to this stage. Unfortunately I live on a state pension, so there's not a lot to spare.

LOUISA1523 Sun 03-Apr-22 15:35:19

How much are you wanting to spend?

yogitree Sun 03-Apr-22 15:08:07

I'm looking for ideas - he has everything he needs. Can't seem to find anything unusual can anyone suggest anything? I've looked at experiences, but am not seeing anything that jumps out at me. He is an outdoor person, has a partner, dog and enjoys many sports and travel.
