Fridges with cameras!!

Our fridge died on Friday - cue mild panic as we had DD1 and co staying.

We have a man coming on Tuesday to see if it is fixable but it is 17 years old so it might not be cost effective.

With this in mind, we went to look at replacements. Ours is an American fridge/freezer and I have fancy for one with drawers in the bottom. We couldn't find many but we did find a few with a camera so one can check the contents of the fridge via an app.

That confused me!!

Has anyone got one of these? If so, do you use it? Was it worth the extra cost?

Hi Kitty we have a RangeMaster American style fridge in our kitchen it has two freezer drawers at the bottom, they still make them.

As for a fridge app, that’s a step too far for me ??

Good heavens ! That’s a long way off from putting the milk in a bucket of cold water to stop it going sour !
Whatever next !

Another one with a Rangemaster here - the two pull out drawers are, for me, so effective. As for a camera, I could see it being very useful if you're out shopping and wondering if you have certain bits in. It would worry me though if it took a photo every time you do a bit a fridge picking grin

I was reading a home interiors magazine recently which showcased a tap you could operate using your phone! I guess it could have an application for people with a disability but the thought of the mayhem children could create if they got hold of your phone. ? ? ?

How ridiculous if you cant be bothered to have a look before you go shopping then you deserve to go hungry in my opinion ???

How could a phone identify every item in your fridge if it one of those stuffed to the gills, with carton, jars and packet fridges? Can it squeeze between the packet of suet and jar of pesto, to check the label on the side of the bottle and read it, or does it just give you an overview, which really is not much use.

I have an app on my phone that tells me when the washing machine programme has finished. I find it unexpectedly useful ?

My tumble dryer is a member of the IoT (Internet of things) and if I so desired I could operate it from my phone. The phone has far more functions on it than a the controls, but I have no wish to connect it to my router. And why would I want to switch it on or off from the sofa when I am only 10' away from it? grin. Mind you I never saw the point of TV remote controls when they came in, just to save a few steps between sofa and set?

They'll be talking to us next!

"Did you know that your half-finished jar of mayonnaise is 6 days out of date?"
"Time to put salad items on your shopping list!"
"The broccoli needs eating up"

I thought you meant the camera was watching when the fridge door was opened!!

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 15-May-22 15:51:52

Midgey, that's what I thought! I feared my children would monitor such a device, then phone me with "Mother, you shouldn't be going for that bottle of wine..."

My new Bosch washer/dryer can be operated with my iPhone! I’m still reading the user manual to figure out what all these new cycles are. ?

I would hate a camera in my fridge - it would be constantly telling me how untidy it is!

JaneJudge Sun 15-May-22 16:16:10

My sons hands would be constantly being filmed!

kittylester Sun 15-May-22 16:20:23

A camera in my fridge would say 'do you know lots of people clean their fridge weekly?'

Callistemon21 Sun 15-May-22 17:07:01

Mine would say "Are you sure you really want that chocolate"?

Mine too grin

I'm trying to work out where a camera would be so it could see the entire contents of the fridge and how it works in the dark???? Does it have its own light?

Wheniwasyourage Sun 15-May-22 18:45:21

At least a camera in the fridge would settle things for people who worry that the light doesn't go off when you shut the door... grin

My bathroom scales flashed up Happy Birthday one day. It scared the living daylight out of me as it was indeed my birthday.
How did it know it was me and how did it know it was my birthday?
I have never been on it again.

If my fridge is going to wish me "Happy Birthday" I want it to provide cake!
(Wouldn't expect it of scales of course- Espee that's scarey!)

... my bathroom scales lit up when I jumped on them with the message, "one at a time, please"

grin
