It's on this weekend in London - don't say you weren't warned!

I love the advice for safety reasons it's recommended that everyone wears shoes grin

Bare as you dare

Gongoozler Fri 10-Jun-22 16:38:01

Yes Cherrytree, I wondered where they keep the wipes and tissues and combs!
I would need to go over myself with a steam iron before exposing my wrinkled bits in public.
Still, It’s given us some entertainment.

Bellanonna Fri 10-Jun-22 11:50:46

Are they doing it for charity? If so, I can’t see the problem. Nobody is obliged to go and watch and feel scandalised.

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 10-Jun-22 09:06:58

Oldbat1 : you made my morning with your (terrifying) image!?

Kandinsky Fri 10-Jun-22 08:50:02

I’ve seen a few gay pride marches and some of the men are near naked.
I’m not sure why?

“Warped gay pride” Lynderella2? angry

Crazy crazy times we are getting through at the moment ..what on earth are we exposing our children to now days ..no need for this at all ..any public parade now to my mind is a but warped ..gay pride and naked bike riders ..REALLY ..and this is the best we can do? ?

I think there's a huge difference between Gay Pride and naked bike rides.

For one thing, naturists have dedicated places and spaces for their needs, since as long as I can remember.

Gay people have been previously victimised and up until fairly recently criminalised. Gay Pride is a celebration of their right to exist and not being forced to conform to a stereotype. The consequences of which could and did have serious damaging effects on mental health and wellbeing.

If we were to prevent naked cycling, I don't think it would have the same life-altering effect on the riders.

I can't see the two issues in the same light as you.

"any public parade now to my mind is a but warped ..gay pride and naked bike riders ..REALLY " . So, Lynderella2, gay people wanting to celebrate their life choices are warped!!! Whatever happened to diversity?

Thanks for the warning. Know where I will not be when ride going on.
Nakedness doesn’t bother me but prefer not to see groups of people showing off with it.

happycatholicwife1 Thu 09-Jun-22 23:35:01

I don't get the point. I see no interest for the participants, nor for the observers. As my mom used to, "What a taste for knickknacks!".

Shizam Thu 09-Jun-22 22:12:35

I saw them few years ago in London while having a quiet drink with a friend. It was weird. But they went on their way quite merrily and quietly. If it makes them happy...

SachaMac Thu 09-Jun-22 21:08:52

Awkward & embarrassing for the naked riders (& bystanders) if they fall off and end up sprawled in the road ‘showing all they’ve got’ shock as my grandma would say!! Hope there are people standing by with blankets!! blush

Hetty58 Thu 09-Jun-22 19:30:57

Not everyone is completely naked, only those who feel comfortable. I'd have to wear underwear, to prevent chafing (and embarrassment), but each to their own, with helmets and shoes advisable. I think it's a lovely idea and it's been going for a few years now.

Oldbat1 Thu 09-Jun-22 19:23:28

I wonder who is likely to be interested in this. Please god DO NOT let the PM participate.

Cherrytree59 Thu 09-Jun-22 19:22:31

All those saddles yuk envy
and no where to keep the wipes

Nodj Thu 09-Jun-22 19:17:46

Oh my eyes! My eyes!

4allweknow Thu 09-Jun-22 19:07:23

What is the point of riding a bike naked? Beggars belief!

If you have to go to the pfaff of carrying a towel round with you everywhere and having to carefully place it on the seat. Why on earth don't these idiots just wear some pants? It would be easier.

I agree! Obviously if you're eating out you need to have somewhere to stow your wallet or credit cards, mobile - so if you're a man, why not just put on some loose fitting pants with pockets. Women of course usually have a handbag with them and can put the towel in it. OK when you arrive at the restaurant, café or whatever, but then after eating - you have to reclaim the towel and put it back in your bag... which is a bit like stuffing your used underwear in there!

I guess if all the other diners are naked it doesn't matter about seeing everyone's nether regions, though.

As for the 'freedom' bit, well yes, it's nice to feel the air on your skin or the sea when you have a dip. But cycling, shopping (I've seen a video of that, too) and eating in a restaurant? I can't help but feel that a certain amount of exhibitionism is involved.

I was on a beach once in Greece - a mixed 'nature' beach so there were some with and some without clothes sunbathing. But I noticed that all the naturists put on a pair of shorts or a skirt when going to the beach bar. They were simply sunbathing and swimming in the nude - which made sense.

Pedwards Thu 09-Jun-22 19:02:17

One word, ‘why?’

snowberryZ Thu 09-Jun-22 18:07:04

I saw a video of people going into restaurants naked (they all were tho') and carefully placing a towel on the seat first. Why not just wear a pair of light textured, loose-fitting shorts?

That's what I don't get.

Why do you need to feel 'free' when eating a meal? It's ridiculous.
I can understand someone liking the feel of water on bare skin or sunbathing naked. Have done a fair bit of skinnydipping and nude sunbathing myself in the past.
But anything else is just plain exhibitionism and frankly its usually unpleasant to look at.
What on earth makes you think that people want to see your saggy wrinkly droopy bits, when they're just going about their day?

AreWeThereYet Thu 09-Jun-22 17:45:27

I don't understand the why, try as I might. Freedom? From what? I've never had a problem with my clothes. I like the feel of swimming in the sea but never felt the need to take my clothes off. It doesn't bother me in the least if that's what people want to do. I just don't understand all this business of being free.

Grannynannywanny Thu 09-Jun-22 17:27:39

My spare tyre would come in handy if I got a puncture.

Dickens Thu 09-Jun-22 17:26:10

Germanshepherdsmum

Why do they do it? Just WHY?

... thank you GSM. I was just going to say the same... why?

I can understand someone wanting to sunbathe naked in the privacy of their own garden, or on a naturist beach, or run among the sand dunes, etc... but why do they want to cycle around like that?

And, erm, the 'hygiene' issue? I saw a video of people going into restaurants naked (they all were tho') and carefully placing a towel on the seat first. Why not just wear a pair of light textured, loose-fitting shorts?

SpringyChicken

How marvellous, riding along with the wind in your hair ...

????

Glorianny Thu 09-Jun-22 17:12:47

If you are. driving, these people distract you, and you have a bump what would you put on the insurance claim? Distracted by bare cyclists?
