Grandson sleepover

Straight from travel cot to single bed is the answer. They soon learn not to fall out ! and most children never do .

I don't have a proper bed for them. I have a Z bed for one visitor, very comfortable and folds up quite small. The mattress was used on the floor for one young child, but now she can happily sleep on the bed.

The two boys sleep on a luxury king size airbed which they love. It folds up small and both the Z bed and airbed sit in a corner, tidy and out of the way.

Straight into single beds from travel cot for both our GC. With bed guard from when they were 2 till 3 or so. The single bed was quite low so even if they rolled over and fell out out (which luckily they only did once each!) they wouldn't have hurt themselves. We already had the single bed and our daughter was quite happy with them going straight into it.

When staying at our house, both our grandchildren went from their cot into a double bed. I placed the bedside cabinets right up to each side of the bed (buffered by pillows too) and lots of cushions on the floor. Neither ever fell out.

A single bed would be so much more useful than a toddler bad or a cot bed. With a single bed you have the option to offer a bed overnight to family/friends would wouldn't be able to use a cot bed. A bed guard would be useful too.

DGC went into single beds at our house (DGS1 commandeered the double being the eldest). Cushions on the floor. No one has fallen out so far. DS used to fall out and he sleep walked too! I wouldn't buy a smaller bed unless you have one already. DGS2 is 4 and still in the cot bed and he is quite tall but will be getting a single over the holidays. He fitted in the travel cot till he was almost 3.

I bought camping bunk beds for my grandsons. They can be used as single beds and have a side rail. They aren’t very high either and I got a camping mattress for each of them and they loved them. We put a sheet over the top on, draped down and it was a fabulous den for them.

We had a Z-bed that fitted between the wall and my side of the bed for GS and GD1 and that seemed to work OK.

GS graduated into single bed in a different room when he was 5 or so, GD1 shared the guest double bed with her mum one night when they were all staying and so that has been 'her' bed ever since!

Greenfinch, put them up for sale on Facebook marketplace. They'll be sold in days.

We had toddler beds for the grandchildren. I paid £10 each for them 12 years ago and used them for a year .I saved them for my four younger grandchildren but they were not wanted. Now I cannot give them away on Freecycle. I guess people don’t use them anymore.

I have a single bed and use bed guards.

We had a fold-up chair that flattened out initially. Inflatable bed guards from Amazon that fit under the sheet were useful once DGD went into spare bed.

DGS went from cot, to mattress on the floor with a high baby gate in the doorway, to a toddler bed and now into a single bed.

Toddler beds sell like hot cakes second hand. I told it for the same amount I paid for it, so no loss.

Yes ...I remember putting cushions on the floor too with my son...
I intended to use a bed guard too...
I don't really want to buy a cot/ toddler bed...then have to change to a single one ?...
He's still in his travel cot but don't think it will be long before he's outgrown it...

I moved mine straight from travel cot to single bed when they were just under 2 years old. I put several pillows on the floor in case they rolled out. All three fell out once. No harm done - in fact, one didn't even wake up when they fell out - and none fall out a second time.

When I first told their parents what I was planning to do, the reaction from both sets was "good luck with that!" They were convinced that their children would keep climbing out, but they didn't.

Ours slept in single bed against wall and a bed guard until they got used to bed.

I have a mattress I put on the floor. Also one of those foam chair beds, that fold out to bed on floor.
