My husband died unexpectedly recently. We had been planning a saga cruise and I am wondering whether I should still look at this while I can. Has anyone done a cruise solo and if so how was it?

Sincere condolences on the recent loss of your husband Cnash ?

I’ve just noticed your unanswered post from a few days ago. I don’t have any cruising experience but hopefully someone will come up with helpful advice.

I'm sorry your husband recently died - it must still be still so raw for you flowers

I haven't been on one but there are cruises/holidays for Solo travellers - not necessarily single people just those who for whatever reason are travelling alone. This might be better for you rather than be surrounded by couples at this stage in your bereavement.

Have a look at Riviera - they do a lot of Solo holidays. I am so sorry for your loss.

My neighbour goes on at least 3 cruises a year. She is a widow and finds the security of being on a ship comforting. There are many other singles on the boat and she is never at a loss for company. Go for it and tell us all about it on your return. Bon Voyage ?.

I'd say go for it, too. Don't close off opportunities to travel.

Not the same circumstances at all but my husband and I went to Rhodes recently. He hurt his foot badly and so couldn't walk further than to the pool! I went off on my own to explore Lindos and the old Medieval town and had a wonderful time.

I am sorry to hear about your husband.

I have been spending a lot of time researching solo holidays as my husband died 2 years ago and I am having to think about how I might find the courage to holiday alone. I have had a holiday with my family since he died, but not on my own.

There are lots of companies who organise holidays for people on their own - I am currently looking at One Traveller and they have a lovely trip to Switzerland that I am looking into.

I have also booked a self-catering holiday in Wales for next May.

I am afraid that whatever company you choose there are single supplements, even when they try to hide this fact, so be prepared to have deep pockets!

If you are interested in talking with others who have been widowed then Way-Up is a good forum.

Cnash sending good thoughts to you. My husband died 3 years ago and I am also contemplating my first solo holiday.
I've got as far as having a brochure for Rivera Travel solo travellers sat next for the last 3 weeks.
As Luckygirl says it's getting the courage together isn't it.
I don't really fancy a cruise so looking a bit further afield. I would be interested to see what the experience of others is.

I really enjoyed my solo holidays taken with companies that specialise in them.

I absolutely understand feeling nervous about it but I can’t recommend them highly enough. They have a guide who will help you with anything and a whole group of fellow travellers to share in experiences.

They do cost more per person than a holiday for two, but you get more for your money, usually extra planned meals for the evenings and extra excursions compared to the regular couples holidays. Plus a room to yourself?

Actually I met the Man of the Moment on one of these holidays, but now that he is obsessed with Bowls ☹️? and I never saw him all Summer, I shall go back to having holidays like this again.

I mostly went with Just You, and Explore. He went with Solos a lot. They were all very good. I don’t know how companies have fared since Covid but I shall start looking into it very soon.

Do try it. Oh do, do, do!

Sorry for your loss.

I’ve just returned from my first solo cruise which I throughly enjoyed. I visited Scandinavian countries for 2 weeks. I would recommend one week for a first cruise.

I booked through www.passionforcruises.co.uk/ no solo supplements. I would recommend a drinks package if you like a glass or two of wine with your dinner and the odd G&T as these can be expensive on board.
