Joseanne they are on the slinky side - your clothes sit smoothly over them and they are not sweaty. I think they are great.

Re the poppers, Welbeck there are some very upmarket ones made for professional-type women to keep their shirts extremely tidy with a tucked-in but no creases look.
One of my adult daughters has one. It looks like a turtleneck.
Hers was made by Wolford I think.
I read somewhere that the Princess of Wales wears them

I bought a roll neck one few years ago which was so long it had poppers underneath to do up. I think the idea was to stop it riding up. Trouble was, unless there was a mirror, I couldn't see what I was doing to fasten it and I spent 20 minutes in the loo in John Lewis once struggling to pop it together! I threw it away eventually.

that sounds like a baby's garment.
there are some people, adults, who like dressing up and behaving like babies, maybe it was aimed at that market.

And there was me thinking it might be something to do with the naughtysexy market! Grin ?
Either way the poppers were tiny, so fiddly and if you do them up wrong you feel all adrift.

The M&S Heatgen go either way. I wear under jumpers, doubled up with another colour/neck, or alone.

I see Forsythia has also recommended them. Yes, as a regular customer every so often you get a £20% discount on that and many other items and I snaffle the up then. After about 2 years they lose their stretch a bit so they are my go-too round the house tops.

I use M&S ones.
Several colours and certainly (up to last year) two thicknesses.
I like the thinner ones best.

I can't recommend M and S Heatgen tops enough!

I have been buying them for 8 years.

There are the thin ones and the slightly thicker ones.

Thin one comes in at about £12.50 and the slightly thicker ones £16.50.

You will NOT sweat in them, I often layer one over the other.
boat neck, or a bob or two more, polo neck. Some cheerful red ones in atm too. Very wearable as a "top" tho your bulges will show. I recommend one size bigger than usual - ie I am a 10 but buy a 12, and if I wanted to be gentle on the bulges would get a 14.

I live in M&S ones, and can wear them as tops as they look fine. I like their warm leggings too.

Another fan of the Sainsburys! Got quite a few from them - I hate bulk so layering up is a last resort. They wash well and are really very pretty.

Used to get Damart ones when I rode motorbikes, but they are very dated looking compared to others - and very much more expensive.

M&S also do a few in longer length which are fantastic as they are really long.
Look out for those if you like long vests!

I wear either M&S and Sainsbury's. Sainsburys have a good variety of colours.
I prefer the Sainsburys ones and great value, especially, when bought in the sale.

I have some Damart ones, black so that I can wear them under a shirt or on their own, they look like T shirts, not underwear. Not sure if they still sell them or not.

M&S Heatgen... I've been using them for a many years ... light weight yet cosy. They wear really well and are very comfy.
I do find the long sleeved ones less comfortable under long sleeved dresses. In fact I cut the arms off a couple! They do sell them without arms!
I have about 7 tops and 7 leggings as I wear a fresh lot every day and wash them all at once .They dry quickly.

I bought long sleeves ones from M&S the other week and they're so lovely and cosy I'm going to invest in the long johns to go with them next time I'm there. There's a recommendation!

Thanks for all your replies, have got some M&S vouchers so are going for their Pointelle vests at £25 for two.

Fortunately I am well covered enough to not need thermal vests, or indeed any vests, but my husband has always been on the lean side and feels the cold so does wear these.He orders from the Internet these days, but there are many supermarkets who sell them and of course M&S.
My late Mother did love Damart though.

I too, recently bought a couple of M&S thermal long sleeved tops. Not the cheapest I have seen, but they are very warm. I bought a size down from that which I would normally wear in their t-shirts, so that it would clip my body and not ruin the line of what I was wearing on top. (Hope that makes sense). I really dislike thermals that have prickly lace around the neck, the plainer the better for me.
