Quickest way to send a parcel in time for Christmas?

Just wrapping my DM's gift and am running a bit late due to work pressure. Would be grateful of any suggestions as it's a long journey which we aren't able to make at the moment.

NB I am sending to a nearby relative to give to her because she will absolutely deny ever having recieved anything. (It's happened in the past and cost me a lot paying again for the gifts to be sent twice!)

I use Evri, I know you hear about problems with them on social media, however, many thousands of others have not had problems. Nobody goes on social media saying I had a parcel successfully delivered today.

If it is under 2 kilos then I send via Special Delivery. I know they are having strikes but they are prioritising special delivery. - and you have proof it was delivered

Loaded onto Santa’s sleigh now I bet.

It's not yet loaded onto Santas sleigh as I've only just finished wrapping! I have weighed it and it's 2.5 kg... Hmmmm

Anyone know if Evri does private parcels?

Oldbat1 Thu 15-Dec-22 15:36:52

Not sure if Evri collect from private houses but we have used other well known companies. I’ve also seen shops advertising they are a drop off point. Do a quick search on line. Good luck.

Thanks Oldbat1 I've found a number of shops I can take it to. Just need a Jiffy bag or something...

The service is only £6 something even for next day delivery! Makes a mockery of postage. Wow, thanks for telling me about it. I'm in a lot of pain with a bad back so it's a bit slow here! Will get there!

I don't know what a 'private parcel' is but Evri do next day delivery. I'd avoid Royal Mail at the moment as the backlog is horrendous - we've been waiting for parcels sent at the beginning of December. More strikes planned for next week too

Yes Evri will collect from home as will Royal Mail and others.

I use www.parcel2go.com to compare.

But this just now in the news:

“Delivery firm Evri is causing 'Christmas misery' as parcels are being lost or delayed in 'classic case of corporate greed', MP blasts
Labour MP Carolyn Harris hits out at billion-pound company Evri
She said it was a 'classic case of corporate greed' as many lose parcels in post
Evri, rebranded from Hermes, deliver more than two million parcels daily.”

Evri have the best tracking info and you can buy insurance from them very cheaply. As the Daily Mail states, they deliver more than 2 million parcels, the vast majority successfully.

Nothing wrong with Evri, I have used them for years for my business.
You can buy extra insurance if required and they will collect from your home.
£6.85 for the weight you quote, collection from home. Extra for next day delivery.

DPD next day delivery. They will pick it up too and you are given time slots.

Thanks! I had not used Evri before and went to the shop with the parcel but they said I needed a QR code and I don't know how to get one, so I have given up and will try again tomorrow.

Go onto Evri site, click on post a parcel, fill in all the details, pay the required sum, you can then print off the postage label which you stick on your parcel. You can then drop it off at whatever your nearest drop off place is, they scan the label and give you a receipt. You can track the parcel and they will send you an email when it’s delivered. I’ve never had a problem with it. Beats queuing up at a post office.
