I was sprayed by a skunk earlier this year. Never stunk so bad in my life! Has anyone else on here ever been skunked?

Unlikely in UK

Not me but both my dogs have been sprayed by skunks. It’s the most horrible smell and lasts a long time. You think the smell has finally gone until they get wet fur and the stink returns.

Driving in California many years ago there was a terrible stink, about a mile further on we found out why, a skunk had been run over.
That’s as close as I ever want go get.

No but every time I see this title I read Sprayed by a Sunak.

We were travelling down I94 one dark night and the car filled with the most awful smell and it was from a run over skunk.

Same in Colorado- the stink was just incredible!

Yes, it has incredible lasting power. I don't have fur, but I still caught whiffs of it on myself long after I was sprayed.

And yes, my name is reference to it. My wife still calls me "old stinker" even months after I got sprayed!

I'm not likely to ever need it but my American son in law says Tomato ketchup is the best thing for getting rid of the smell.

I've heard about tomatoes - tinned - being good for removing skunk smells. Plus I think that in areas where skunks abound, (not the UK!) one can buy commercially produced sprays to remove the smell. DH & I have smelled (roadside casualty) skunk when travelling in the USA; it's awful! Like the very worst, strongest, long-lingering stink-bomb smell that's possible. A little goes a very long way indeed.
