What food/drink did you go off when you were pregnant?
For several months I could only manage plain cream crackers, farleys rusks, without milk and opal fruits.Chinese takeaway was banned and although I love my tea normally,I couldn't stand it or coffee.

Havent touched coffee in 41 years, still cat stand the smell since fourth pregnancy.
First and second pregnancy, very nauseous, third and 4th just slightly queasy in the evenings.

I couldnt stand meat with any of them, even to this day,I dont really enjoy meat, and eat very little of it.

Grannybags Wed 25-Jan-23 21:15:41

Coffee for me too.

Also salted peanuts. Just someone opening a bag close to me would start me off!

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 25-Jan-23 21:38:10

My antipathy to handling raw meat started in my first pregnancy and persisted. I have been vegetarian ever since.

Coffee. Even now I can’t drink instant and only have an occasional cappuccino in a cafe. I couldn’t handle raw meat, but DH took over that part of the cooking.

I threw up night and day for the whole pregnancy. Still can't stand the smell of vinegar to this day. Loved the smell of cleaning fluids especially boot polish.

Luckily I didn’t have a problem with either pregnancy, just carried on as usual.

I must have been very lucky

Shinamae Wed 25-Jan-23 23:25:28

Four children, no morning sickness, but my daughter suffered terribly with her two pregnancies..

I was really sick with my first pregnancy for several months, but I didn't go off any particular food.

In fact, I can remember occasions (probably in the 4 /5 month stage - when I suddenly had to rush off to be sick halfway through a meal, but could then go straight back to the table to carry on eating.

I was very sick, morning, noon and night, for about the first five months. Cream crackers, lemon marmalade and water for breakfast - with maybe a sandwich for lunch and salad for dinner, no tea or coffee (and moving slowly). I couldn't eat anything greasy, couldn't stand any cooking smells either.

I lost weight dramatically - then piled it on in the last three months. I'd have a pint glass of water and a bucket by my bed, so I could drink to dilute the acid vomit - that helped my sore throat. Still, all four babies were just fine! People would ask how I could be so thin, after four kids - well, effortless for me.

I went off coffee and had a craving for sweet potato. I ate loads of them. I wouldn’t eat ordinary potatoes with my first because they said they could cause spina bifida. What a load of tosh , they should be careful what they broadcast to people. I was sick with all of them in the first 3 months but it miraculously passed after that. I actually enjoyed being pregnant, must have had a lot of placid hormones.

GagaJo

DD had hyperemesis gravidarum all the way through her pregnancy, vomiting for the last time after giving birth. She vomited between 5 & 8 (sometimes more) times a day. Lost loads of weight. Was hospitalised with suspected organ failure. Baby was big and healthy and remains robust and vigorous.

This is how my pregnancies were as well, and one of my dds had it even worse. On Iv fluids for months on end — the babies all turned out healthy and thriving but oh did the mothers suffer. I’m quite sure my teeth never truly recovered from the endless vomiting

Gingster Thu 26-Jan-23 07:30:39

Peppers! Still can’t eat them to this day.
I yearned for a jar of morello cherries.

My DD was sick all the way through first pregnancy, sick with the twins but fine for her last one.

Franbern Fri 27-Jan-23 09:25:46

Had one day of nausea with my first. Before I knew I was pregnant, just thought I had some sort of bug. After that day i was fine with that one and next two pregnancies. Third pregnancy - twins. With these if did feel nuaseaous whenever I was actually hungry. So, if this came on, would need to have something anything to stop iot.

Only time I ever had any cravings during my pregnancies was i nthe twin one, when each evening hubbie had to make cheese on toast for me. Not proper cheese -it had to be the plastic slices which I have never bought before or since AND toast and cheese had to be well overdone ( burnt) under the grill.

I had the usual morning sickness with two of my 3 pregnancies. I used to drive to work praying I wouldn't throw up in the car ! Not A Gran that must have been dreadful!!!! It was bad enough for me ! I was sick in labour though will all three babies. The morning sickness lasted about 16 weeks then I would wake one day and know immediately it has passed - great feeling.

Grandmabatty Fri 27-Jan-23 11:48:49

I was sick every day with first pregnancy, right up til I was hospitalised with pre eclampsia. If I was sick in the morning, the day was ok. If not, I was nauseous all day until I was sick. My craving was for pickles, onions, gherkins,it didn't matter. Pregnancy number two I was sick many times each day for the first four months. I could only drink tomato juice and couldn't stand coffee or tea. My craving was for melon.

Grandma70s Fri 27-Jan-23 11:59:31

I was never sick, but I went off coffee completely. I see I am far from alone in this.

sodapop Fri 27-Jan-23 12:11:10

My first pregnancy was in the 60s and I did suffer with morning sickness, my doctor offered me medication which fortunately I declined. Not sure if it was thalidomide but I'm relieved I didn't take it.

Witzend Fri 27-Jan-23 12:11:26

I was very lucky, just very faint nausea for a couple of months with my first, nothing with my 2nd. I don’t think dd had any sickness, either - which is probably one reason why she was so late to realise she was pregnant with 2 and 3 - first scan of 2 showed 14.5 weeks - she was expecting maybe 8 or 9!

sharon103 Fri 27-Jan-23 12:17:36

I was sick and felt sick all the time during the first 3 months with my first baby. I was fine for the 2nd and 3rd baby.
The smell of food especially fish and chips from the chippie made me feel worse. Everything I ate tasted sweet for the first few months but I desperately craved the smell and taste of vinegar!
2nd and 3rd I craved oranges.

EMMYPEMMY Fri 27-Jan-23 15:27:57

Me too

JackyB Fri 27-Jan-23 15:56:49

I was fine during all pregnancies but couldn't eat carbohydrates during my last one. No potatoes, bread, rice, pasta, or even my favourite semolina. It had no consequences except constipation - for the first and last time in my life. Back to normal straight afterwards.

Baby was born at 2.15 pm though - so lunch had finished and I was starving. They rustled up a dish of goulash - full of onions! I refused to eat that as I wanted to breast feed!

Dancinggran Sat 28-Jan-23 11:28:10

Totally went off coffee and the smell of raw meat sent me rushing to the bathroom - definitely stayed away from the butcher's

schnackie Sat 28-Jan-23 11:33:09

First pregnancy was awful. I was a visiting nurse in central Louisiana and most of those women started cooking big meals (fried onions, okra, greens etc) at 7 a.m. I often had to run to the bathroom in their small homes. They were incredibly sympathetic though. Second pregnancy I sailed through, not even realising I was pregnant until the second trimester!!
