I lost my credit card on the day I was leaving New York a couple of weeks ago. Think I left it in the folder they put the bill in.
Only discovered when I went to get it out to pay the taxi home, then I discovered it wasn't there.
After a quick bag search, I went onto my Bank App to cancel it. Done instantly new card arrived next morning. No fraudulent activities on account.

Hi , I thought I woukd ask all wonderful gransnetters gor some reassurance please.
I have hust been to the supermarket and paid with my debit card as usual at the self service scan and shop.
Unfortunately the terminal wad not in the bracket properly and after I paid if fell out and my debit card was lost in the depth of the machine.
The staff were helpful but we couldn't find it.
Obviously I have cancelled the card but am worried the card could be used fraudulently.
Am I panicking unnecessarily?
Thanks in advance

Don't worry.

We've had several instances of cards needing to be cancelled quickly - it all works out well. You'll not have any problems.

Im sure it will be fine. I lost mine a few weeks ago, luckily it was found by an honest person who took it into my bank & they called me and I headed straight up to pick it up. I’d already put a temporary freeze on it so just removed that. Many places have a policy of shredding cards if the owner hasn’t claimed them within 24 hours so I guess if it turns up at the supermarket this is what will happen, it won’t be any use to anyone now you have frozen it.

I found a debit card in the town centre. Their bank had recently closed so I tried to ring the bank!!!
Six different phone numbers later, I spoke to a human.
'I've stopped the card. Can you just cut it up please?'
Not sure I was very impressed.

I had my wallet stolen last summer. My debit card was in it but I cancelled it as soon as I got home and no one attempted to use it.

No. You’re fine as everyone has said.

It'll be fine.

Mine got swallowed up by an ATM when we were overseas once, I rang up immediately and a soothing Scottish voice assured me it was cancelled and he would arrange for a replacement to be sent to my home.
Meantime, I was overseas!

Thanks for the reassurance. Was getting in a tizz. You here so much about identity fraud, but I guess there's no address.

Yes, the bank will have cancelled it. You should get a new one in a few days, probably very soon after you realise that it fell into your bag after all grin

Once you report it lost, it doesn't work.

What volver said. Don't worry.

As you've cancelled the card you should be fine. Even if someone was to find it and try to use it, the bank know that its been lost.

I wouldn't worry. smile
