Everyman cinema coming to our town.

We have a Curzon in Ripon, it’s superb.

I don't go that often nowadays, I have to really want to see the film. I agree Everymans are expensive, possibly trying to emulate the theatre experience. Personally I don't buy food either I don't see the cinema as a place to have a meal and I've never liked all that munching around me. I haven't experienced much in the way of chat once the film has actually started.

The Everyman in our town is patronised those who can afford the expensive seats and enjoy drinking, eating, chatting and using iphones and tablets while the film is running. I have given up going to it.

But we also have a thriving film society where you not only get to see the film but can hear it at the same time.

Isn't 'Everman' a misnomer? You need to be pretty well-heeled to afford to go.

Yes we have one, they are really lovely, but expensive as cinemas go, but a great addition to the town, ours is fairly new. I've been visiting Everymans for a good few years, there was one close by to our previous town. I have never heard of the subscription you refer to Nan Kate, my experience is you merely pay for your tickets when you go. I would add that the last film we saw was "Elvis" and that was back last year, sometime I think in the summer, so haven't been recently. As Louisa states you just book tickets on line, or if you happen to be passing you can pick them up at the box office and avoid the booking fee.

I would add that the sofas that accommodate two people, if there is only one person on that sofa then the full price for two applies. I only mention that because I took both my grandchildren to see a film last year, there wasn't a lot of choice trying to get one single seat next to the sofa as singles are few and far between. Something to bear in mind if you book for an odd number of people rather than an even number.

Aside from that all lovely, they serve food and drinks and the servers come round inside prior to the film starting to take orders. Ours has an upstairs outside terrace and the decor is very retro sixties, pictures of stars like Bardot from that era adorn the walls.

I’ve been to the Everyman Cinema in Glasgow Nankate, although not for a couple of years. I didn’t have a subscription, just paid the ticket price. I do remember it being comfortable and quite civilised compared to the last time I visited one of the large multi screen places.
