Always tip my lovely hairdresser , he is not an owner . Usually tip restaurant staff unless the service has been poor

No I don’t tip I don’t understand this very strange ritual
You tip a hairdresser or beautician but you don’t tip the woman who serves you your beauty products in a shop
You tip a taxi driver but not the bus driver or train driver
You tip the Waitress who serves your food but not the cook who makes it
You tip a gardener or window cleaner but not the nurse who may be saving your life or the ambulance driver who got you to hospital
No I don’t tip anyone then it is equal and no I m not mean I m fair

Anyone who serves me gets a tip as usually their wages/salary is not great. Unless it's a bad service my tip then will be giving you them advice on how they can improve.

Always check your bills nowadays. Gratuities are regularly added automatically. I've been caught out with this whilst in congenial company. No longer!

No, I don't agree with tipping, and I've never understood why we are expected to tip some people and not others.

I feel the same, it was different before minimum wage came into being but now nobody relies on their tips to make up their wages.

I always tip hairdressers, beauticians, waiter/waitresses, taxi drivers whenever I use them.

Window cleaners, cleaner and gardener at Christmas.

If we go out for lunch, I tip, but my friend never does…
I have in the past, been a waitress and so has she…🤷‍♀️

I've not been to the hairdresser for a while but I do tip the beautician on alternate monthly visits by rounding up the bill by 20% which brings us to a whole number. It isn't always easy to tip - we had one more or less thrown back at us in the US and it was explained that Brits are seen as mean because they don't typically offer 20% or more.

No very rarely. In restaurants it is usually added to the bill. My hairdresser is the owner of the salon. I do occasionally give something in the hand of someone who has giver me exceptional service and I gave the girl who cleaned my car a bunch of daffodils.

Yes, I still tip.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 02-May-23 17:41:12

Tip.

kircubbin2000 Tue 02-May-23 17:32:50

Do people still tip? I usually give my hairdresser £1 on top of her bill but my friend has told me I don't need to as the girl is part owner of the salon.
I don't tip if out for coffee.
What would you do?
