It's a bit like investing in a burglar alarm for your home in that it encourages the baddies to select a different target. The Krookloks which have a little blinking red light are particularly effective for night time use.

We use a crook lock all the time. We had the same one on our 10year old VW and now use it on our 2 year old Ford. I just hope theives would see it and move on thinking it would be too much trouble

I used one on my previous car, but it doesn't fit my current one. Perhaps I should find one that does fit.

Foxygloves

D has one for her Land Rover Discovery which despite their eye watering price tag and ostensibly state of the art anti theft devices are apparently incredibly easy to steal and often shipped abroad before they can be tracked down.
She finds the visual deterrent effective having had her car stolen off her drive (even with CCTV) and an attempted theft outside a park she had taken the children to, when a brick was lobbed through her windscreen!
I don’t bother, as my “granny car “ - a Skoda Fabia- can’t be of much interest to either professional car thieves or boy racers.

Don't be too sure

Years ago a gang tried to steal my old, boring solid Ford from our drive.
Apparently they might have wanted it for a ram raid, according to police. It was dispensable 😀

I've got a crook lock I've had for decades. I use it whenever I leave the island where I live. Even if I - occasionally - can't find the key to lock it, I'm sure it still deters would be car thieves. It certainly gives me peace of mind. Even though the car is about 20 years old and worth only a couple of hundred pounds, it's loss would cause significant inconvenience, I am very fond of it, and I would worry that she - 'Lottie' as in 'costs a lot to maintain'(DH) and also paternal DGM's name - would be used and abused if stolen.....

I'm with you, Foxy. Love my ancient buggy and no one else would want her.

Yes, they're very effective and easy to use once you get the knack. We still use ours occasionally, depending on where we're parked. Do make absolutely sure that you get the model which is specific to your car, and don't be tempted to go for a cheaper look-a-like, as there are plenty out there. Stick with the Krooklok name and reputation, and buy from a recognised and reputable dealer. There are cheap copies out there, guess what.. "made in China".

Lots of talk of cars being stolen.
Some experts recommend using a crook lock.
I remember these from the 70s!
Does anyone use one now?
Are they any good?
Are they easy to put on / take off?
My grip isn’t what it used to be.
Thank you.
